Have always heard that an openwork would be piece #8-10 in general, and that has been the case for me. Good diversity of materials and models certainly help. Wasn’t a particularly long journey for me, but expensive nonetheless.

Great timing too with the imminent discontinuation of the ref.

Thank you. I’m pretty sure AP would replace the 15407st with a new openwork, and my guess is that it’ll have a nicer caseback. I just feel the openwork has gotten such a cult following, and it’s become so iconic for AP, that there’s no way it gets taken off the menu.

Thank you, I’m about a 6.5inch wrist size. Nothing too triumphant. I’ve always liked the 41mm case size, feels and looks right for me.

Congratulations, hopefully my next one when the new version pops out.
This one is perfection to me so I am a bit scared of the « new edition » :-(
If I could have this version now I would go for it. Enjoy !!!

I'm in still in the honeymoon stage with mine. The current design is just right IMO. I'm looking forward to see how they improve on this design in the new model. We'll know soon enough I guess.

Thank you sir.

I think there’s variance depending on the circumstance. I have a friend who went past/skip the jumbo and wanted to go straight to the openwork, and got his quicker.

This is obviously based on the assumption that the way things work is: you build your “profile” to a jumbo first, then you get the jumbo, then you build some more into Openwork territory, which may or may not be an accurate assumption.

Totally agree with you both. The current iteration is really close to perfection already, is an absolute icon, and will be the standard to be compared against. And if there’s a chance to snag one, just gotta go for it.

I’m excited and intrigued to see how AP brings the openwork forward. No doubt it’ll be something the eventual openwork owners can look forward to. Eventually, everyone will be in 2 camps, some will prefer the 15407st, some will prefer the new release, but all won’t say no to either

Congrats, love the 15407ST as well....and agree every ones journey is different - there is no exact timeline for any piece!

Congrats!

For the new openworked, can probably look to the design cues of the tourb openworked. Movement that fits 41mm, 3d open working but no tourb

Now that would be a significant change and design upgrade compared to current 15407. I regard the 15305 as the original, with the 407 reflecting a modest change based on the gold bridge. In contrast, the skeleton design of the tourbillon openworked (without the tourb) is a different piece IMHO. But I’m sure there’s people who’d still prefer current 15407, which I would understand too.
