You already have the R. I personally prefer the R over the SS. I flipped my AP Jumbo after a couple of years because I just prefer more wrist presents. I was also overly worried about scratching the heck out of it.

To me, the new found attraction of the 5712 is amazing. Just a few years ago they were not that popular. All you heard on this forum was how people didn’t like the dial layout and blah blah blah. Now it’s one of the hottest SS sports watches, period.

Did you make a mistake? I don’t think so. If having your name on the papers is that important to you, you made the right call.

depends. If you are keeping it for a year or two and moving on then it doesnt matter. If you are keeping it forever and giving it to your kids someday they will be getting your friends watch. At least thats how i see it. No way i buy a watch in anyone else name if its going to be a keeper.

Objectively, paying 38k for any watch watch is crazy. Insisting its in your name is reasonable by comparison.

Thank you

Thanks to you all and particularly to whom who agreed with me ( few though). I wanted the watch to keep it to my children not to flip it. that’s why my name on the papers was important to me, I fount it weird paying so much money for a watch that is not on my name.

Name on the papers means nothing when it comes to hard to get pieces. Oh well. You live and You learn

This is a completely personal decision, to me.

Obviously, in an objective/value sense name on papers makes no difference.

However, if having one's own name on the paper is important to them then its important to them. Period.

For me, when it comes to PP, i want my own name on the papers. Its just what 'I' want.

What's done is done. It's only a mistake if you're unable to source in personally yourself within a reasonable period of time. at MRSP. However if you have no prospect of sourcing it soon, then it was a mistake. Don't dwell on it OP, I'm sure other opportunities will arise!

Yeah definitely odd. My AD told me when they do things like this, The store buying history stays with the friend and the name on Patek papers can go with you.

I would only buy a watch with my name as well. Of course i dont really have any friends ...the closest thing is my wife...of course she bately likes me

Lol

I’m sure you’ve read the responses above and I’m sorry to pile on...but it’s a mistake in my opinion.

So, I would have bought the watch at msrp and enjoyed it while waiting for one in my name to arrive.

Anyway, it’s not the end of the world, just be patient.

I know that I am one of many to pile on, but it’s not a big deal. You are in a position to buy an amazing and expensive watch, which means you are probably living a relatively great existence. Life is too short to dwell on the small stuff. Just wait for your chance to get the watch you want, and how you want it. I’m sure the one you passed on is making someone else happy, so all is not lost.

I never understood why this is a bother for some, who cares if your name is on the papers??? Many people when prices were under retail at grey dealers were saying they prefer to pay more at AD and get their name on the papers, but really what difference does it make, are you wearing the watch or showing people your papers?

If we substitute a car in place of the watch.... would the conversation be different. After-all 38k is more than most cars.

I was refering to the name on the car papers.
I have no issue buying used or preowned. And have.

More that for 38k id like to have my name on the papers.

Don't think I've ever looked at the papers since buying mine, probably haven't on any watch I own that I haven't had an issue with.

If having your name on the papers is important to you, then no. No mistake.

Personally I would have done it. Its not my name on the papers for my 5711 either.
