Insurance Valuation in the UK

Greetings, this is one for my fellow UK members. Having declared my 47-year-old Red Sub on my home insurance I now need to have the watch valued. What is the best way to do this here in the UK? I've asked Goldsmiths and they say they have to send it away (I've no idea of the cost) I would value your advice.
Cheers.

Elite can do a good faith appraisal based on pictures.

How about taking it (or email) to an auction house and an auctioneer/ valuer? Make out like you may sell, and they will definitely give you a valuation!

Hi, I have heard of members using valuemystuff they apparently give a fairly accurate ball park figure . You just have to upload photos and as much info you have, copies of paperwork and any useful info regarding provenance etc. Good thing is no sending your precious watch away and around £20-£25 I think( don’t quote me). Apparently they have ex-experts from Sotheby’s & Christie’s on board. I understand Goldsmiths do valuation days around the country where you can book a slot for a fixed fee, around £60 I think, not sure why they are asking/needing to send it away, regards

Most of Goldsmiths' valuers struggle with a vintage Rolex. I've seen some horror stories, even with modern pieces.

A valuation produced from photographs alone is one likely to be challenged by insurers in the event of a claim...

Among my 80+ staff are a couple of FIRVs (Fellows of the Institute of Registered Valuers, or qualified heavyweights!) but it's really my watch team and I who would appraise such a piece. Happy to help, if you can make it to NW England. No need to send the watch away, all done on site, albeit at one particular office where that team is based.

Unlike one watch forum I frequent, this one doesn't have a charity fundraiser or nominated charity of which I'm aware. Others can correct me if it does, but failing that I would be happy for my team to appraise your watch for a £40 donation to the NSPCC (a UK children's charity, for the benefit of members elsewhere).

You can find and contact me a number of ways, but I'm a bit busy with the sailing season for another week.

Haywood

I don’t think you’re going to get a better offer than what Haywood’s just made you

Greetings one and all, I thought you might appreciate a brief update. Following exchanges, with Haywood, I made the 3-hour drive down to Liverpool and met him and his team. In addition to the much sought after appraisal, I was able to spend an hour or so with them during which time I found myself in the company of very welcoming real Rolex enthusiasts, willing to share their knowledge and experience in respect of my watch and vintage Rolex generally. I was privileged. I think this forum is very fortunate to have Haywood's interest.
Thanks Haywood.
Cheers
