5740 or 5270?

Granted they are very different type of grand complications, and have very different MSRP. Assume you have cash for only one of these two, which one will you buy?

The 5740/1G,

Or 5270P

I would really like to add both of these.

I’m hopeful that they won’t be too hard based on the pricing.

I'm probably in the deep minority here, but neither does anything for me. I'm a huge Nautilus and PCC fan, however.
Maybe over time my mind will be changed.

Money out of the question I’ll have the 5270P. My dime? Nautilus.

Feel the same way- want both, but when it comes time to lay the cash down- taking the 5270p. This should be a short run as they want this line off the table imo.

5270 another version of a long lineage of great pieces.. but one of many.

For collectors ultimately I think the first super complicated nautilus will hold more value & novelty longer term.

i want to say 5270P. And objectively i prefer it.

However, i would wear the 5740 more so i would actually buy that one. 5270 is better looking and a better watch IMO so if i was a collector who kept watches in the safe since i dont have a lot of occasions to actually wear it, it would be 5270 by a mile.

If I could, 7270P would be on my radar. I'm a sucker for salmon dials and I think this ref is really well done.

5270P easily.

I think in future years the Nautilus will come out in steel and that will be the piece to add.

Nautilus. 5270 is too big for its style imo.

5740...im a sucker for any Nautilus. I had a 5970J and NEVER wore it. I just prefer a bracelet watch that can go anywhere.

5270p

This may seem odd to some: the Nautilus "seems almost" over priced to me compared to the 5270p as its not platinum, no chrono and in a very typical dial color.

The blue on the Naut is the PM special so not typical atho more so than salmon ofc, and prices of the 5270 have a ceiling as the recent Sotheby's auction showed, while vintage Rolexes were often selling at multiples of the high estimates and seemingly don't, same on the PP sports.

If current trends continue, I’m believing the Nautilus will be the sought after piece commanding significantly higher prices compared to the 5270P.

O.K. - I don't think I disagree with your points...but I will try to clairfy mine:

A. Nautilus = (any) blue dial...to me does not add value when comparing watches (to me). From my experience: many/most PM Nautilus (WG/Plat) I own or have seen are some sort of shade of blue.

B. Used prices of 5270's and the auction market were not on my mind when I answered. I did not read that as part of the initial post question.

C. Vintage Rolexes...I will just leave that one alone:)

D. Auction "estimates"...That is it's own thread as well.

I just feel for the dollars spent, comparing the two watches...I see a little more value in the 5270p event though it is more money.

I do agree with you, just outlining some reasons why the prices are maybe closer than they should be.
