I found a whole bunch of Credit Cards today when I was walking My Dog...

They were all from the same Girl and I found some other cards that were hers as well. There was no wallet and when I got home I called the Local police and told them what I found. The police came to my house in about five minutes and I gave the officer the stuff.

He proceeded to ask for my Primary address (as I am down on the Cape), my date of birth, my phone numbers, etc. Why would he need all of this info? I am glad I turned all the cards in but now I feel funny about them knowing all this info. Can someone thats a police officer tell me why they need this.

Also sounds like they want to rule you out as a suspect. You did the right thing, of course. But it may take the LE officials a while to arrive at that conclusion.

Those are routine questions... nothing for you to worry about.

These are routine questions for needed information so the officer can complete his report (positive identity of the reporting party). This information will also allow the authorities to contact you should you be needed to make a more complete statement or to testify in court should the credit cards be evidence in some more serious crime than simply a purse snatching or burglary.

Bruno, I spent hours and hours watching this random streaming site dedicated to nothing but The Office. And I think that is the perfect way to spend the rest of my night!

Retired cop here. The Officer simply needs your info to fill out his/her report. You are the reporting person/property finder/complaintant. You will never hear from them again regarding this I am guessing.

Yes, as the others have already said, it's routine for the officer to get the name/address/etc. If they have any further questions, they know where to find you/who you are (also known as a "follow up", although in your case, I HIGHLY doubt there is anything to follow up on. You found said items, and turned it over to the local PD. You're all set, you did your part.).

Bruno, Thats nothing!
Some years back, my secretary had a friend of her family, a teenager, heard a scuffle going on in the Frankford section of Philly, went to investigate, and found a guy laying in an alley with blood everywhere. Cops showed up, arrested him with attempted murder being he had blood all over him trying to help the guy who was stabbed multiple times and was put in lockup for a week until the victim cleared him and told the police a prostitute stabbed him.

He's just filling in the blanks. We never use SSN's anymore on anything the public has access to. PS, anything we do is a matter of public record.
