SD serial number help >>>>>>
I am considering buying a "v" series SD from someone and called Rolex office on 53rd st in NY. Spoke to George (Sales Administration) who told me that the 1st letter of the serial number doesn't mean anything and that it's a "finger print" It does not indicate the run year.....

First characters are generally considered a good "rough guide" to a watch's approximate age. FWIW, the V series watches appear to be the final pieces to have a pre-determined letter. Everything now is random...

Here's the list:
http://preownedrolex.com/images/html/dateyourrolex.htm Your V series is basically the newest; although, it could be as much as a year old.

Remember, salespeople are there to SELL not to make you happy. There are also a number of threads commenting on amusing things ADs have said to get you to buy.

The date letters are only approximation when a case was stamped. And not necessarily when a complete watch was assembled to ship out to AD for sale. But V is the last of the old type case date and serials, now they are just random letters and numbers code only known by Rolex.

The serial number is just that... a unique number for that watch alone and Rolex does not produce any particular number to correspond with anything in particular. However, Rolex has been studied, researched, and pondered more than any other watch on the planet.. So, whenever a new serial number surfaces, it is immediately entered into the many home-grown lists out there. The final result is a bunch of lists.... lists that vary widely..... but are still useful for estimating about when a particular serial range was initially seen in the marketplace.. The very last serial range seen for the SD was a range starting with "V"..
