Crown UP on a GMT IIc

A while ago I saw a post about the final position after setting of the crown. The writer finally got his crown so that it faced up ( towards the wearer.) I never saw a post as to how he did it. Any help for us compulsives?

Whats the point the simple answer is some line up some don't and who is going to look at the Rolex crown while on your wrist. And even if you got it to match up would make your watch run better ?.And next time you have a service crown could be back to square one again so why bother.

You can unscrew it a little if you are taking pictures and want the crown pointing up perfectly... that is the only scenario when I have needed the crown pointing up.. .

Getting the crown up is a painstaking process, I would imagine. The threads on the crown tube only start in one position; therefore, you would need to find a crown tube / crown combination that was indexed properly.

There's not a thing you can do about that, my friend. It's just the way the threads are milled on the inside of the crown and match up with the corresponding threads on the stem. You could try and start screwing it down in various positions, but in the end it will only land up the exact way it was as when it came out of the box. The threads match up precisely and you cannot alter that.

It's the luck of the draw. If you are lucky, you could get a straight up crown; but in at least 95% of the cases, the crown will be all over the place.

Don't try to force the issue. You will only cause more harm than good. And like Padi said, it's not really important.......no one even notices that!!

true it is not important to most people, but unfortunately it is juts one of those things some people get annoyed about (as well as, "oh, no.... my watch is 1 sec off", "i need to have certain number of links on 12 oclock side", etc......)

i bet whoever wears the watch on the right wrist will notice the Rolex logo on the crown more than those have it on the left wrist

Mine is almost perfectly 180 degrees 'off'...that is to say, the 3 dots are 'up'.
Interest in 'correcting' it...Zero.

I have never had one that lined up, and I never really cared. I do find it funny how some people insist on calling their Rolex watches "tools", but them get hung up on how the crown lines up.

You asked for help. Lets see. Its purely a mechanical (threads and radial positioning) and selective matching issue. By using trial and error and few (tens of) tubes and crowns, it can be done and it might work for awhile. Then would come servicing - one of the other - or both - wear and get replaced! Nah! There is no lasting and economical solution. Just enjoy the fact that it looks great and keeps time!

Don't worry about the alignment of the crown. Neither of my Rolexes, or my other watches have crowns that line up (although my Tissot is very close). My DD is way off (crown is sideways), and the DJ is about 45 degrees off.

when you get it serviced, maybe RSC can try to adjust it for you. But as the time goes, it will slowly advance...

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Nice when it happens but nothing I ever think about until the camera comes out.
