How can a watch be 'worth' it's price? It's just a chunk of metal. With that being said, I would like to pick up a panny sometime in the near future.

"The Value Of Anything Is How It Makes "YOU" Feel" i love some of them unique individual pieces with real character, that allow the wearing to make an individual statement in a world full of sameness/ lookalike pieces

Personally, I do not like any of the Panerai line so no they aren't worth their price to me. In fact I wouldn't give you $100 for one, I dislike them that much. There are many people who like their styling though and I imagine that many of those folks think they are worth the prices.

I own a Panerai, and I would buy another, but not at today's retail prices.

When I consider a watch at $5K, I see more value in a Rolex GMT or a Girard Perregaux Sea Hawk II, for example, than I do in a base Luminor. Not long ago, I paid $5K for a VC Overseas Chronometer, which is IMO quite a jump up from a PAM 183, for example. I would like to buy a PAM 190, which I think is a perfect watch. However, when I see the same movement in a JLC Master 8 Days, with more features, and available for as much as $3K less, I have a hard time reconciling the 190 as a $10K watch. On the used market, however, the 190 is available at a pretty good price.

That said, you're the only one who can draw this conclusion for yourself. And then again, that too can change...for you or for me!

They're worth their price for the same reason Rolex is worth theirs.

Watches are worth what people are willing to pay for them. Panerai watches fly off the shelves, so I'd say they're worth their price.

I agree. Not only do they fly off the shelves but you don't even see most gray market dealers giving a discount on them. That being said, aside from Rolex and Omega, I would say Panerai is a brand which generally earns a rabid loyalty and enthusiasm once people own one.

Personally, I buy Rolex at MSRP and sell them to all the crazy people for a big profit. I love Omega. good enough for NASA good enough for me. My favorite watch brand Panerai. I can't see the big deal about the Daytona. Can't wait to get a 42mm and sell it for a HUGE profit. ROLEX aren't worth their price to me

Gentlemen, please! Can't we enjoy all great watches for what they are and how we enjoy them?

I like Rolex and Panerai both, but have to admit that since the bug bit a few months ago I have worn mostly Pannies. And I have been buying straps at an uncontrolled pace, changing them constantly.

I still like my Rolex's, but am thinking of selling one to get my next Panerai.

I'm also fond of wearing my red dial Glycine with black strap, and the Chopard Mille Miglia.

My point is, it's not necessary to slam one brand in order to make one's point about another... JMO. Larry.

Perfectly put, Larry. Rolex and Panerai are both great brands, and personally, I feel very fortunate to own both.

I hope you don't think I was "slamming" Panerai, I wasn't I didn't actually say anything negative about them at all. I just don't like them and it's mainly a styling issue, I am sure they are fine watches. So I apologize if it is I that offended but if it is I am not exactly sure how.

Just working on the basis of how hard Panerai are to buy at my local AD, I would say a lot of people think they are worth the money......... Are they over priced ? Probably.
Do I want one ? Definitely !
Currently deciding between a PAM 98 (£4700.00) or a PAM 241 (£3250.00).
For that sort of money I could also choose between a TT blue YM or the new SS GMT(C).

The thing is though, that the 98 is coming to my AD from across the globe and the 241 will probably not arrive for 6 months at least. Virtually every Panerai is already spoken for before it even reaches the AD.

Panerai Watches Prices

Pannies are good watches and they are in limited quantities, unlike Rolex. However I love both watches. Panerai is my new love...But Rolex was my first, so I will always love these timpieces.

Our friend in Kuwait tried to light a fire and did not count on the fact that TRF members are , in the main, fair natured watch enthusiasts.

Since he/she failed to contribute further with personal opinions I will close this one while we are all still friends.
