GMT Master 16750

My local AD took in a GMT Master 16750 on trade roughly 1984 model. Watch comes with box and history from local dealer with original sale. Watch appears to be original with nice patina on hands and dial. Case is in decent shape along with bezel. Sell price is $6000 with overhaul of the movement only. I don't want anything else touched. Is this an acceptable deal? Watch would also come with two year warranty from dealer.

I saw it today and everything is correct to spec. Dealer called Rolex and the serial number matches up to Pepsi dial as well.

Any help is appreciated.

Would need to see pics to make any sort of determination. A lot depends on whether it's a matte or glossy dial.

It's a glossy dial. Picture below.

Looks ok to me. GMT hand MAY have been replaced at some point as it doesn't match as well as the others. Could be just the angle of the photo too. I'd say with the basic service and if hit has the box and everything, $6k is a pretty fair price. Just a crystal polish (Maybe a realignment as it looks a tad crooked) and I think you'd be good to go.

I hope you weren't referring to my post as I certainly never said it came with papers.

Prices in US must be much cheaper on vintage as it seems reasonable to me. In uk you would be paying that in GBP and then some.

GMT hand does look like its been changed.

I wouldn't be fussed about missing papers.

$6K with box and some provenance papers inclusive of COA service with two year warranty from dealer seems quite reasonable to me.

Seems like a decent price, especially with a service, although the mismatched dial/hands patina would bug me. Good luck either way.

The GMT hand doesn't match up so that was probably changed at some point.

Box and papers are great but on this piece it wouldn't bother me. Would rather have hands and plots that matched better than box papers.

Other hands don't match either.

Looks good to me. The hands may well be original to the watch, too. It's amazing how others seem to know definitively that a certain hand or all hands have been replaced. Hands and dials don't always change colour to the same degree. In fact, very often not, from what I've seen. They don't look too far off the dial patination colour to me, just a shade lighter, which could well be how they naturally developed. The hands are also a little darker at the centre-pin, which is common. Just another humble view...

X2! I've seen many watches confirmed all original that have mismatched patina. It absolutely happens, and fairly frequently. Still, personally I avoid those watches, because there are plenty out there that DO have matching patina. And those watches cost more usually!
