Looking for Solid automatic Dive watch under $1,000

I posted the other day about the new Seiko SPB053J1 coming in November 2017 (on the left below). I am looking for a rubber strapped watch (can buy rubber if it comes with steel) to take on vacations on which I visit sketchy areas. I will be going to the beach, snorkeling, sunning, etc.

I also want half decent time keeping. +/- 5 seconds per day would be nice. I guess up to 10 seconds per day is livable. It should be available for under $1000. Oh, and dint look exactly like a Rolex Sub--I have one of those. I have found in the price range two Seikos that carry the 6R15 movement, and I have also found a Longines.

I'd love any suggestions!

Thanks for input on the Sumo. Here are a few others--smaller brands.

Depending upon how deep you're going snorkeling, a Seiko SHZH55 is well under $1K and finishing/appearance are quite nice, is definitely one of the best bang-for-the-buck automatics out there in my book.

There should be quite a few watches that fit your criteria made by companies in the Swatch Group.

Seiko is great, as is Orient.

I don't think you're likely to find COSC precision at under $1000, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the Seiko recommendations.

How are the 7S36 and 4R36 movements compared to the 6R15?

Good suggestion on saving money towards next Rolex. However, I do want an automatic dive watch that's good for sketchy vacations that still tells pretty decent time. So I have to balance cost vs. accuracy.

The Seiko Sumo for under $500 with the 6R15 seems like a pretty good buy. Can anyone come up with an automatic dive watch that has accuracy as good as the 6R15 for that price range?

Above watch can be had for circa $200. Wear it underwater, in bad neighborhoods and good.

This is my Chr. Ward Trident Pro 600m diver.

Black wave dial, ETA, ceramic bezel, 43mm, excellent timekeeping, and an oyster style bracelet with a ratcheting clasp.

I don't know if you may consider a pre-owned watch, but I have posted an ad for it.

They discontinued this "classic" model, but released a new one with an odd logo.

Oris Aquis can be had for under $1k. I don't know if the time keeping is much better than any of the Seikos (my turtle runs within COSC, but the previous owner had it regulated).

I have been thinking of picking up a Seiko Astron or a high accuracy quartz Seiko diver for the situations you describe, but i get the allure of an automatic.
