AD Robbed Twice in Two Months - Culprits Caught!

My local Rolex AD, in an easily accessible location in our most popular shopping mall, has been the victim of smash-and-grab robberies twice this year. The first robbery occurred near the close of an April business day but yesterday's robbery occurred in mid-day. This time the police were able to immediately track and apprehend the culprits and recover most of the stolen merchandise.

The problem is the weak level of punishment. If America were like some countries where they chop off your hand in public, I can guarantee you this type of crime will drop overnight. Instead, we have a few months in jail where they are fed then parole/probation. Then it's off to the next AD.

Haha, you think America has weak punishments, come to the UK. They would probably get a suspended sentence for that here, and a course on how to be a better person.

Obviously that don't have to do the course in one go, they can do a few hours a week, that way they can fit it in around some other robberies.

Than you haven't been to Holland yet. Here the top 600 street scum get priority over ordinary hard working people on housing and benefits. Everything is arranged for them. Wish we had the USA penal system enabling to remove these culprits for a long time of the streets

3 of the 5 have already posted bail and are walking the streets again. A fourth will be out as soon as he is processed. How much you want to bet they victimize others before this case even comes up in the court system. The system is obviously broken that these guys got released.

Agreed.

Although barbaric I would hazard a guess that not many thefts occur in countries where you lose your hand if caught stealing.

The deterrents offered by most countries now do make it worth the risk to commit crime.

It is most likely now that a motorist caught speeding will get penalised more than someone caught committing a street robbery..... go figure that one.

Those countries have a state religion, which institutionalizes a common moral code. Americans are free to believe as they wish, which allows some to believe there is no moral code. Freedom comes with a few inconveniences, but I'll choose freedom anyway.

Besides, if the US could adopt hand chopping the appeals process would be so long that the thieves would be retired on their social security pension before the sentence was executed.

Now that Costcos are displaying high dollar Rolex, they have made themselves a target also.
