New Heuer Autavia

What do you guys think of the new Heuer Autavia?
From the pics it looks like a fantastic watch especially with an inhouse chrono mouvement for under 5000 bucks.

They should have honoured the original 40mm size. Most commentators say it wears just a little too big.

Most commentators haven't seen the watch let alone tried it on. Most who have say it wears just fine.

Would have been great at 40mm. Another size related misfire.

Why do brands keep repeating the same mistake? Do they realize that part of the huge appeal of vintage is because people like those precise watches --in terms of size, proportions, design codes, and feeling?

Most commentators tried the pre production model on last year and have now seen it at baselworld.

As for size, check of other articles. Hodinkee for example are very diplomatic in saying the vintage model in comparison that the new does not wear like the original.

Too big, simple.

'The 2017 Autavia will be presented in a 42mm stainless steel case, which is a little more imposing than the original reference, which measured 39mm. It’s also going to be a lot thicker, so while it looks very faithful to the original watch, it doesn’t quite wear like one.'

I like it, but the size would make me think twice. That said, I quite liked the Calibre 8, but on the wrist that was too small for me.

I like it and have one on order through my AD. I like it on the rice bracelet which is offered. Gives it a retro look. I will have to try it on but I am a bigger guy and the 42 mm should not be an issue.

Lots of men have man sized wrists which should make this great looking, feature rich chronograph a nice option.

I really like it on the strap. But I also liked the speedy Tuesday. I can't seem to find out how thick the case is. Anybody know? The site has it listed for 5,150. Will they limit availability or will you be able to pick one up in every suburban Macy's? What do you think the ultimate gray market price be?

Did I get this right, the case for the leather band version vs the steel band version are different!

Does that mean if I get the steel version, I can switch it out with leather and?

Called an ad in my area (cd peacock in oak brook). They don't know when they'll get one. Said if I wanted the first one they get I'd have pay in full now and just wait. Even if paying in full they can't assure delivery timeframe. He suggested trying a tag boutique. I've never been comfortable pulling the trigger without trying on first. Also, I'm not desperate enough to pay full retail. Since it's not limited hopefully they can be had for the usual discount on the second hand or gray market.

Maybe they realize that many people also don't like the smaller, tiny watches. To each his own but one mans opinion, doesn't mean that everyone feels this way.

My opinion is Tag nailed it. I will be getting one of these for sure. And oh by the way, love the larger size and wouldn't have considered it if it was small.

As much as I like I seem to prefer the reverse Panda 'Jack Heuer' Autavia limited edition that Tag will be releasing shortly after...if unable to obtain than this reissued classic will do!

click link below to see the "Jack Heuer Edition' side by side with the Regular model.

Τhe bezel "destroys" the limited edition. What on earth did they have in their mind with that bezel ?!?!?

Here's the inspiration that Jack Heuer drew on

By looking the inspiration, it's quite obvious that they failed hard in the reedition.

Well, to my eye looking at them side by side, I think the Jack Heuer bezel is a pretty good approximation, especially as this Autavia, unlike the 60th Anniversary Speedmaster, is not intended to be a copy, but rather a modern interpretation. But, each to their own I guess.

If only the bezel is slimmer like the original Autavia and less thick.

The Jack Heuer LE looks sharp.
