RG44 off to the spa today

My RG44 is off to the spa today. The prepaid kit they sent me is pretty cool. Contacted APSC Clearwater directly. Found out if you go through an AD or Boutique for service, you have to communicate through them and cannot call APSC directly regarding the service?

They tell me five weeks turn around time. I hope it's sooner. I'm going to have withdraw issues!!

What's it in for, service or issue?

At least you have the CE to tide you over

Every time I sent one of mine I went through the boutique and always got my updates (and watch returned) through them. However, I remember I once called Lindsay (I think) at Clearwater and she was happy to give me and update and answer my questions. It just may take them a bit longer to find your data.

It was running a little quick and it needs a light polish. Figured now was as good a time as any. I guess the CE will get a lot more wrist time..

Lindsay was the one who told me to go straight through them if I wanted to communicate with them directly. Maybe she was referring to what you are talking about as far as taking a bit longer to find my data if sent through an AD or boutique..

The boutique in Beverly Hills is 32 miles away from my office, but might as well be 100 miles away with LA traffic. lol. Didn't want to go through an AD especially when I didn't purchase from them.

That kit is very cool, like a cardboard concierge service.

Luckily I am close to the Bal Harbour boutique and they are so great there is hardly any need to go anywhere else. They always took fantastic care of me even though I bought elsewhere. Really first rate and a massive incentive to stay with the brand.

How does the light polish differ from a regular one? Is it a different process where they take less material and doesn't count against the 4 lifetime polishes recommendation?

Probably the same thing. Just a figure of speech.

For me it means to polish it moderately, so if there are dings that would need much material loss to completely remove they don't polish it completely away.

I was told AP won't re-finish PM watches because of the metal loss issue? Maybe I misunderstood, or was told incorrectly.

Nice watch. Service time is always a long time for me. Even when I have other watches to wear.

I've had several AP's worked on directly through Clearwater...some of the best customer service I have received in any industry.

All returned before quoted time and in perfect condition.

I would politely say that is not the case other watch brands I have had to service.

You get your 44mm RG back in short order!

Luckily, no deep scratches or dents in mine. Very light surface scratches they should be able to remove hopefully without taking too much material off.

Not correct, I scratched the case of mine and AP refinished it on just that area with no visible difference to the shape of the case. I would recommend it to anyone who has done the same.

How long did you have it before deciding to polish? People say you should wait years, but I don't know if I want to accumulate so many scratches before doing it also

All AP do to remove surface scratches, literally, is run the case along some fine sandpaper. 600 or 800 grit, the amount of case material removed is negligible.

If the watch has more significant damage like dings then it's a different story.

I was told In those situations ( and in gold / other precious metal models) that they can laser and fill somehow. That would mean they build up and then take down excess. Does this mean that the case itself , if we are not talking about bezels on other models, can be refreshed more than the 3-4 in a lifetime recommendation ? I also wonder if there is a difference between "refinishing" , "polishing" "refreshing" etc. be it light or full-on. it would be nice to wear the watch and not be scared of having it damaged so much, knowing that it can be restored within reason and keep its value . Gold is soft . 44 owners - please chime in on your experience, especially over the years. I have had this question in my head for a while, and, get different answers across ADs and boutiques, strangely. I've heard the case itself will last forever from some, (lasers and filling) , and also that the case is done after 3-4 times from others. Mostly concerned about regular wear and tear , and I've never had a gold watch before this one!

I am sure any damage can be repaired...for a price. I would not go around beating the crap out of such a piece.

Yes, that I understand, but I am talking more about the things that can happen to a "going out" watch worn often. If I like the brand new look for the watch case, I can only do it 3-4 times before I have to buy a new case for it? I understand about the bezels, but those are much easier to replace then the case

Its been a year and 3 months. I agree with you, too many scratches annoy me. I don't know how long I'll be keeping the watches. I would rather have it look the way I want it to so not too concerned.

Nope. No too impressed with their follow up process up to this point.

They sent me an email with a verification that they received the watch on May 30th. They received the watch on the 26th. The email had an attachment with the list of work I requested. I replied back requesting for clarification on one of the items. No response. I wait a week and call the direct line to the rep and leave a voicemail on June 5th. No response.. So I email her and get an on vacation automated reply. I won't name names, but not impressed at this point.

So I decide to call the main line and ask for anyone in client care to get some updates on June 6th. A wonderful client care rep Betsy answers. I give her my repair #. She looks it up and says it's in process. "Wait. Did you ever get a work order/estimate for you to approve and send back?'" Uh, no.. She says we need one of those to start the work.

What?? Not happy at this point, but Betsy says let me get this out to you right away. I get the email in less than 30 minutes. I fill it out, give my credit card info and email it back to her. She sends me a prompt thank you email acknowledging the work will now get started.

Basically my watch has been there for 10 days collecting dust because the rep who originally handled my watch dropped the ball. Not happy about it.

Betsy has been great though and I have confidence she will see it through.

Overall, not the kind of service I would expect from AP. Still better than most other watch brands in customer service I guess...
