More Sub Questions

OK guys and girls,
I'm new to the forum, been around for a week or so. I have already learned a lot here and really appreciate all of the information that I've gotten. I'd like to get a nice watch, my first one. As a former airline pilot I was always interested in Breitling, but the name and reputation of Rolex just does it for me. I think I'll go for a Sub Date (is that the C denotation??), and was wondering what sort of discount I could expect for one by plunking down a wad of $100's at an AD. I am also considering used here on TRF and have been looking at a few options, but again, I'm new so don't really know if list prices here are fair, negotiable, etc. Anyway, thanks for the help, I hope to be able to contribute further to the forums!

The c denotes the newer "ceramic" sub. The bezel insert is made of ceramic. There are other differences also-mostly case shape, bracelet, and clasp ( and hairspring).
For a lot of ADs I don't think it would make a significant difference if you have cash or credit, except if you have a wad of cash I guess they know you are serious. The amount of discount really varies with dealer. Some will not discount at all and others will. If you are considering used there are a few well known and trusted dealers on TRF. Check the for sale section. Good luck.

the c stands for the ceramic bezel, Subc shorthand for new style Submariners ...

Welcome to TRF. Being a pilot, I'd consider getting the GMTIIc. It's got a very relevant function and wears a little flatter for comfort. Nothing against Breitling but they've gotten bigger and flashier lately. Definitely take a look at some of the trusted dealers here on TRF.

Thx. I agree, I think some of the Breitling's are a bit too "in your face", as my wife calls them. I do like the GMTII and the Sub. Other than asthetics and the additional hour hand, they seem pretty similar. I thought I prefered the GMTII, but now I think it's pretty even. Thx again!

Certainly give the trusted dealers here a look. Also, the discount you get will depend on the store and the model. Obviously, you are going to get less of a discount (if any) on watches that they can't keep in stock, like the Sub date. Use a trusted guy here and you'll get a great watch for much less than an AD discount.

Good info. Are the "trusted" sellers here willing to negotiate their quoted prices, too?

Some are, some aren't....just send them a PM and ask. All they can tell you is no. On the forum from a trusted seller, the best you can do on a SS Sub C is $6700 - $6900 BNIB or 9% to 6% discount respectively, with no tax. This is typically a wire transfer price. If you want to use Paypal, they will say with fees which run about 2% on top of the purchase price as they will pass on the credit card fees to you. BTW, welcome to the forum.

Agreed except payal fees are typically 3% +

That is why I said 3% + (+=plus) (however last week mine calculated out to 3% exactly)

I'm new and also looking for a watch. Would paypal offer more security and protection than using a money wire?

If you stick with some of the trusted sellers here then you will be fine. Get references. Check the who/who's on here. Do your due diligence.

TRF isn't really a shopping service...

These types of questions aren't really discussions about Rolex Watche and perhaps they are best served on the Boards for Watching Out for potential owners..

As TRF has a for sale area, unfortunately anyone that hasn't bought before from a seller here, some of the op questions are valid as to who is who, paypal fees etc.

I don't think we can just dismiss their questions even though they might not had read the sticky notes or the top sellers praises in the for sale section from previous buyers.

Just a thought anyway.

Sorry if my post has caused any trouble! I'm just trying to learn and not spend more money than I should be. Spending several thousand dollars requires doing due dilligence, as you say...
