Need some expert advice.
Hello there,
I am definitely a newbie so please pardon my question. My really nice & generous uncle & aunt have offered to purchase a Rolex for me as Christmas gift and for helping them out. What would you recommend for a US$10K budget that is best bang for the buck (in terms of quality and construction)? About myself: I have a $50 digital Casio g-shock. Male; 33; Professional; I don't sail or dive; Will just be for normal everyday where I like value and even though I'm not paying for it, I want their money to be well spent which is why I am here. I like research and sometimes overkill. I like the classic look of Day Date (I or II) but i think they are probably >$10K. I have no clue where to start and looked through the threads and I am seriously overwhelmed. Sorry for the long post. Thanks! |

You can't go wrong with a Submariner...I would suggest the classic stainless steel Submariner with date feature. If you want your watch to stand out more, then the blue face/two-tone Submariner is a classic. My husband has the black face/two two Submariner, and while it isn't as eye-catching as the blue face Sub, it is also a stunning (and more subtle) watch.
I am also very partial to the SS/platinum Yachtmaster as well. |

$10K is a little over £6K.
That'll get you a TT sub or a TT GMT IIc. Both are fabulous watches. My choice would be the sub with black bezel.

If I was you, I would go to your local Rolex AD and try them on. You will know when you have found the right watch for you. Really, my opinion of what I like on my wrist could be totally different than what you would pick, this is your decision, our opinion is really worthless.
You should look at the Rolex web site and learn about different models, she what functions you need and like, then go see them in person.

SS Daytona at that level. TT won't hold value as much as all steel watches and given you have about $10k to spend, that's the price of a steel Daytona.

That's the best advice you'll ever receive. Everybody has their own idea of the perfect watch in a given price range, but only you will know when you've found it. Good hunting.

Thanks for the feedback & advice!
Although looking at used watches is a good way to meet the budget, I will only be looking at new watches. So I think I'll forget DD and look at Daytona, GMT, and Submarine |

Maybe a Explorer I? It'd save them some money.

How a watch looks and how it feels on your wrist may be very different. It would be prudent to try as many as you can and go with what sings to you. If you want to save your benefactors some money, I would seriously consider buying from trusted sellers in our Classifieds section. Happy hunting. |

I'd personally recommend a SS GMT Master IIc - as far as I'm concerned, it's the most practical, best engineered, best looking and best value Rolex you can buy. Rugged but dressy, it's really a watch for all circumstances

welcome to trf!!! and cheers to your new watch!
for starters, i don't know about the others, but if i were in your position, i'd choose first if i'd want a sports model (GMT, Daytona, etc) or a non-sports model (Date Just I, Date Just II, etc). for everyday use, i'd (personally) go for the sports range since they are so versatile -- can be worn casually or (arguably) in formal occasions as well. from there, there are a lot to choose from -- different models, stainless steel or two-tone, etc.. then... Another vote to go to your local AD and try as many models on as you can. You might just surprise yourself! Have fun

I would look closely at the sport models. They are the icons of the brand. Subs, GMT, Explorer, Yachmaster, Daytona.

Try on TT Gmt, Deepsea, 41 Date, and a Daytona.
I'd just get a Daytona, has the best resale. |

As already suggested, you need to go to your local AD and try on a few (a few sport models, a few dress models, a few in SS and a few in two tone).
You'll know which one....It's the one that you won't want to take off and the one that you'll look back at while walking out. That is the advice that I followed a couple of months ago, and for me it was over as soon as I tried on a two tone black sub. I bought it somewhere else but I fell in love there. Good luck!! |

Hmm, are you after holding value for resell down the road? if so Daytona will be your best watch? Or GMT II Ceramic, If you want every day maybe a Submariner green, if you want little flash in it 2tone sub with ceramic bezel.
Good luck and let us know what you'll end up with. after all you would have to like it. |
