You can discuss the merits of the Alphas in the abstract. I suggest there be no further mention of "homage" just to make sure no one slips up.

Better yet, I suggest this thread has run its course and that we all move on to something else.

Not sure about the Subs but mine is a consistent +7 a day. The $10 timing report is more than just getting the watch timed though. What it also ensures is that you are going to recieve the pick of the bunch

If they took one and timed it and it was not that great you would not be getting that watch so it is a little extra margin of accuracy.

These guy's are right at the begining of their project, they are working towards moving away from homages and having original designs of their own as well.

I think out of the box most people will see on average +/- 15-20 a day without going the timing route. I have found them to be very aproachable, just ask them for the one that gets the very best timing result, I am sure they will oblige you!

One thing though, if it were me and I was looking at the sub I would definately go the mil sub route, this is the first of their exclusive line and thus I think will have had extra effort put into it, the famous online auction sight gives you a myriad of reasonable bracelet options if that is what you want!

If anyone is interested, I just got word that Alpha will be offering the timing report for free with their watches over the Labor Day weekend. I think, as a result, I will be ordering the Mil Sub this weekend. I always wanted to try a Nato, and now I can without having to do it on my Sub (which I still prefer on the bracelet) and not having to buy just a Sub head (which costs far more money). I'm sold.

Whoops! Sorry.

Well, like I said, if they offer the Newman, you can get the free timing report for that as well. They're offering it on all their watches. I haven't really checked to see what they have as I'm only interested in this particular version.

Hmm, maybe push the Newman up the list then! I was looking at some of the bracelets that I mentioned on a previous post, the rivited one would look fantastic on the milsub!

There is a lot of passion and respect for alpha watches on the various forums. Though there are the occasional dogs that slip through QC the watches offer a great deal for very little money, especially the manual wind daytona/Newman models. maybe that is why this thread is longer!

I think several established memebers (paddi being one?) have Alphas and hold them in high regard!

Call 'em a gateway drug. No way am I going to have a Rolex or Omega as my first automatic, but an Alpha would work nicely.

We had a group buy a couple years back, and that's when I got my Alpha. It has been a solid watch (even though I don't wear it much). I definitely think that for the money, you can't go wrong.

He does. One of his reviews of the Alpha chronograph led to me getting interested in the brand.

I've never had an Alpha, but I would have no problem owning one.
Many of my friends have bought them and had nothing but good luck with them. One had an issue but Alpha was quick to reply and arrange for a replacement.

IMHO, a nice homage and you just can't beat the price.

I'm not adding a review as much as I am just making comments.

I ordered my MilSub early AM on the 4th, got an email with USPS tracking on the 5th, and it arrived on the 8th complete with the free timing report. Mine is running at about +15sec/day, which I'm happy with even though I'm hoping that number drops over the next few weeks as the watch breaks in. Fit and finish are obviously not to the standard your Rolex is held to but they are pretty good in their own right and as others have alluded both hacking and manual wind functions work.

There are really only 2 things about the watch that I don't really like.

The bundled strap is pretty stiff so after a day I replaced it with a spare Bond NATO strap which makes it a lot more comfortable to wear. I'll probably toss the bundled strap in with the laundry for a couple of loads to see if that softens up the strap at all. The other annoyance is that the lume on the watch hands is much brigher than the hour markings.

It's good enough that I'll be wearing it on those times when I am doing something where I am risking damaging either of my Subs or if I just want a bit of a change. For me the watch is worth the $70.
