It sounds like looks-wise, the older sub would be for you. But, be careful with the fit. Even though the newer sub may have felt awkward and bulky on the wrist, you have a better chance of a good fit as it has fewer permanent links and the glide lock clasp.

Once you get it sized to your wrist, it will fit like a glove.

Try them both on and make a decision. You will get the same pro/con answers here over and over again. Its all about your own personal preference.

I went through the exact same process a few months ago (obsessed over it, actually) and I ended up going for the 14060M. Price wasn't a factor at all, and while my head told me 114060 as it is technically a better watch, the 14060 just felt much better on my wrist and to me was what I've always imagined a Sub to be (for me).

I've got a Z Serial 14060m, one of the latter two liner Subs that was produced. I absolutely love it. It's comfortable, it fits my 7 inch wrist just right, it has lug holes and it looks amazing. I like that the bezel isn't shiny. And most importantly, I like that the lugs are proportionate to the watch. The 114060 is a very nice watch. I just couldn't get over the lugs and the shine on that ceramic bezel. I understand that people love the new bracelet... I wish mine had the Glidelock. But, if you're planning on changing bracelets often (NATO or ZULU), I don't think it's as important.

The 14060 is also a smaller watch. The dial and case is considerably smaller, and also smaller than the 16610 Date Sub.

My issue guys is that I can't find a local 14060 to try on in person, so I am simply speculating that it will fit better than the 114060 based on weight/size, which might not be necessarily true.

Have you tried on the 14060 as well? I have the non-M version and it can be regulated as well as the M version can. Not a major difference imho.

I just couldn't get used to the shiny ceramic bezel, so I ended up choosing 14060m.

A never-ending debate. I bought the ceramic, found it bulky and too 'square', sold it, then thought I was just being silly so bought a second ceramic. Really disliked it, too blingy and 'look at me'. Bought the non ceramic, am happy.
Modern, ceramic, Rolexes are not for me. It's the feeling that they are designed to shout 'Rolex.' Still, they sell and sell, so what do I know.

Can somebody give me the lug to lug length on the 14060m vs 114060? Do they have the same case length? I'm having the hardest time finding these measurements online, sometimes I read 50mm and sometimes 47mm, what are the actual case/ lug to lug measurements on these 2 models?

Just got a new Sub/date, and aside from the beauty of the watch, the glide system on the bracelet just can't be beat !!

I on the other hand knows for sure I wanted the older ones. Just can't decide between a tritium dial one or a 2008 sub with Rehault engraving.

5 digit 14060, a classic.

I've owned both....more than once, and honestly I like them both still. I don't like the lugs and more "squared-off" look of the 114060, but the solid bracelet and end links and ceramic insert are nice, the glidelock was never a big selling point for me because I don't adjust my watches several times a day. It's heavier and seems to sit completely differently on my wrist, sometimes good and sometimes not so good....proper bracelet sizing is key and that half link was much better utilized on the 6:00 for me and others.

The 14060 wears lighter, noticeably so, and I've always liked the aluminum bezel inserts on the 5 digit models. I like a lighter watch, all else being pretty much equal. The clasp on the 14060 hangs slightly open on the 12 end (when on your wrist) because it doesn't utilize the same diver extension system as a Sub date 16610. This really bothered me on the last one I had. It can (and did) get snagged on things, like your pockets, etc. Not an issue obviously with the 114060. If you're not a diver you can easily remedy this by acquiring the clasp link from a 78360 oyster band and putting it in place of the diver extension(and attached link) on the 14060 bracelet.

Mint condition 14060 examples with box and papers are near or at $6k, which is so very close to the price of the 114060 that one has to really consider if it is worth it to have the five digit vs the current model. I'm not sure which way I'd go if I were looking to purchase one today.

I tried both on today. I think the older model looks great. I was assuming I was gonna go that way. Then I saw the two side by side and thought the ceramic look was less striking than I anticipated. I think the bracelet and clasp on the ceramic almost make it worth it alone. I do see the squareness of it, but I have big wrists so it works.

In that case, get an 114060, brand new. There is nothing that beats owning a high quality watch that is yours from day one. In terms of quality, especially the clasp and bracelet it is very hard to beat the 114060.

How many links did you remove and from which sides?

While I like the case shape of the 14060 better, the maxi dial, ceramic bezel, and bracelet on the 114060 make it the clear winner to me.

Look, fit, finish, comfort, everything you could ever ask for in a watch, ...etc! The 14060/14060M does it all with style and elegance. The perfect watch IMHO! That’s why I bought mine and wear it all day every day!
