For me it is perfect and I have been thriugh the same journey as you.

I've tried to buy a 116610 at least 3 times. I know it's a better movement, bracelet, clasp and bezel. I just wish it looked like this.

IMG_3587.jpg

But I prefer 6 speed manual transmissions to modern dual clutch transmissions. Go figure.

Go for it. I have gone 6 digit then back to 5 many times now. Even though there are some improvements with the new watches, they can't get the aesthetics quite right. The oversized super case are actually quite hideous to me. That's just me.

I have gone 6 digit sub and GMT a few times and everytime I have gone back to the 5 digit. In my opinion, the super size case and hideous crown guards are nauseating. 4 or 5 digit for me any day.

I'm thinking of flipping my 116710 for a 16610 now. I'm tired of the PCLs on the 116710 getting easily scratched. Any thoughts out there?

Do it... A 16610 was my first Rolex in 1999, and it’s a keeper. I haven’t owned one, but I’ve worn a couple of 6 digit GMT’s, and the aesthetics just don’t do it for me. While I really like the feel of the newer bracelets, I’ve come to realize that the case & dial are the most important criteria for me, and the older Exp II, Sub, and GMT simply beat out their newer counterparts in the looks department.

I currently own both 16610 and 116610 and was recently offered a 116710 as a trade for my 16610. I tried on the 116710 but felt the GMT bezel with all the numbers too busy for me. I kept my 16610.

Both are great watch, pick which you like the best.

Wow, almost a year later too. I sold my 114060 to go to a 4 liner 14060M. The newer 6 digit models aren’t as eye catching as the previous modes. Kind of like comparing a 993 Porsche to the newer replacement 996 generation (in my eyes that is).

I just sold my 116610ln and bought a 1985 gmt pepsi, also just got a 1016 and really love the small case 40 and even the 36. I don’t see Rolex ever going back to the smaller lug case. The only new I would buy would be the Daytona because it still looks like the older small case and those fit my wrist best. Still probably a year away from a Daytona.

I love so many older and vintage references, but I can't get over how insubstantial the bracelets and clasps feel. I admit I wish it didn't bother me.

Personally, if it is just the PCLs that bother you.......just get them brushed by an expert. I prefer the 5-digit iterations myself, but I sure wouldn’t let PCLs get in the way of my enjoyment of a watch.

BTW, I would just wear it and enjoy it. My buddy has a 116710 as his only watch that he wears daily. His bracelet is now mostly brushed from just wearing the hell out of the dang watch. Life is too short..........

I honestly just love how comfortable the 5 digits are.. Have a few 6 in my rotation and like to have both because there are many aspects of the 6 digits I really appreciate as well.

I've gone this way, the only sub I have now is a 5 digit SEL. For me it's the perfect Sub. For modern I love the new SS BLRO. You may want to consider adding the Sub if that is an option, if not - go for it!

Not a bad trade if it’s what you like! I prefer the 4 or 5 digit fit for myself as well. I wear 6 digit, and l love the references that I have. I enjoy all three iterations, and love aspects of each one. If you’re happy looking at your wrist...that’s what counts
