From the wearers point of view this may well be viewed as an upgrade although I've always found it to be very comfortable. However from a manufacturing point of view this is clearly a downgrade - if the watch is made from pm then the production cost differential has to be far less for the buckle as there is far less metal required.

Don't really feel that it is an upgrade or downgrade. I always prefer tang buckle as it is so much more comfortable and I am very glad that all these new ROOs use tang instead of deployment clasp.

I prefer deployment.
1) Looks more stylish and elegant when wearing watch. Can stand upright, walk around the room and talk when wearing. Tang buckle must struggle with one hand and rest watch on lap. 2) related to above, no worries of dropping the watch. 3) the leather strap or rubber will last longer since no need to bend the strap to hook on when using tang. 4) better fit with deployment. Tang always will loosen slightly when the buckle pin move back into position. 5) deployment almost only available in high end watches. |

I wouldn't call it an upgrade or downgrade but the tang is definitely more comfortable.

I think a deployant is classier and adds to the watch. However, the tang is very comfortable and secure.

I have the diver and am very happy that it's a tang, the comfort is perfect whereas with deployment it wouldn't be so good I think...
Let's say comfort wise it's an upgrade, technically it's a downgrade IMO... |

I prefer Tang buckle on ROO. I have tried the AP-shaped deployant buckle in older ROOs and find them not so comfortable.

Good thing i didn't buy a deployment bucket yet. I would be really disappointed if it ended up being comfortable.

Tang is way more comfortable but they should design the deployment to be just as comfortable but keeping the be fits of deployment !

Definitely more comfortable with the tang buckle. The older deployant buckles would dig into your wrist - especially on smaller wrists.

7 3/4 wrist here and I prefer the deployment all day long over the pin. That pin, in my opinion, sucks. Did not find it comfortable and found that it separated the leather on the strap making the strap look cheap.
These hornback straps are not cheap and the last thing a person needs is worrying about the strap seperating and stretching. |

Upgrade in comfort but downgrade in terms of cost. The deployment clasp almost costed 800 in SS. The tangle in SS is much cheaper. They increased the price of the watch but put cheaper items such as a tangle compared to the deployment.

Tang is a huge upgrade because of comfort vs deployment.

IS250C nailed it!
Deployant is FAR better!! Also, I find the AP Tang LESS comfortable than the AP deployant! However, this is likely because of two reasons: 1. My wrists are not small OR skinny. I believe deployant digs into small & bony wrists?! 2. I HATE HATE the wider strap (whether 24mm or even 20mm) for Tangs. 18mm of deployant width works perfect, and is MUCH more elegant as well! Just my opinion, I know I'm in the minority here!! So, Tang is a DOWNGRADE! |

When was this released? None of their new watches comes with this clasp.

When putting your watch on. With the deployant style you can pretty much multi task and walk around and do it easily with one hand whereas the Tang style requires a lot of work to put on. I.e. putting your wrist on the lap to close the tang with the free hand.

I was recommended to turn the straps around on my deployment clasp
To improve comfort and fit But I've come to like the AP stamped in my wrist As I like a snug fit |

Tang is more comfortable but it needs more concentrating when putting it on, had a couple of near falls so now I stop everything and put it on first, usually facing into my chest.
