15400 at NY boutique today

it's become my new obsession.
and seeing it next to my ROO confirms (for me) that having both is mostly redundant.
u can definitely "feel" the ROO on the wrist more than the 15400. had i not ever worn the ROO, the 15400 may feel heavy...but not after having just worn the ROO.

the 15400 definitely "blings" more than the ROO...the case and bracelet have much sharper edges and brighter polishing..but very elegantly.
it's definitely still a sports watch. but can take up the dress watch role very easily.
which is why i think the ROO ends up being redundant.

different story if it were the 15202, i'm sure...which i would consider a strictly dress watch...and therefore i could rationalize keeping the ROO around.
but have models that fill that role much nicer (JLC reversos).

a few shots from the boutique heading into the weekend...

I'd take the RO over that ROO if you are thinking of trading.

Who did you see while you were there? Have been really obsessed with it since I left too, but haven't been able to get subsequent messages returned (kind of annoying level of customer service for this sort of brand).

Looks great, I much prefer the RO/ROC to the ROO.

to restate, the black themes ROO shown is mine. i wanted to compare it with the RO just to confirm if the sizing would make having both redundant - and as stated, i think it is.

and my recent obsession with this boutique version 15400 is definitely making me favor it over my ROO.

figuring out what to do with it, if i decide to take on the 15400.

for chrono, i do prefer the ROO over ROC. for me, the royal oak case and bracelet is best suited for the non-chrono layout.

they didn't have any 15202 in stock.
in fact even the 15450 i saw there just a few weeks back was already sold. and i will say, i tried on the 15450, and it felt WAY too small.

haven't seen all 3 in person - 202, 400, 450 - but I'd imagine the 202 is much closer to the 450 than it is to the 400. in which case the 202 is not for me.
i prefer the heft of the 400.

for lighter dress watches I'll revert to my jlc reversos and explorer 1.

Gents, in your opinion, is the 15202ST strictly a dress watch or can it double up as sport.
I am about to pull the trigger on one of these beautiful pieces; im just a little unsure how much mileage i can get out of it as a sport watch without looking ridiculous...

RO and Nautilus are dressy sports watches.

and I'd go further - the 15202 is definitely a dress watch.
whilst the 300 and 400 are more sport, particular cuz of the significantly heftier bracelet (over the 202).

the 450 might be an interesting compromise cuz of the 37mm size.

btw, for either 202 or 400, anyone know if the shade of blue on the dial is different from the initial (re-introduction) H series to the current J?

Interesting. the 15202 does feel dressy on the wrist, i just wonder if itll look out of place worn causally. Maybe there's not much sense to my thoughts because no matter what its paired with, if it looks right then it looks right.

This is my opinion only but I feel like all royal oaks look best when you're somewhat dressed up. They have a gorgeous bling to them in the light, not unlike a WG DD40, which suits a crisp button up and trousers well.

When I was wearing a t shirt and shorts my RO (15400) seemed sort of out of place. But that's just my humble opinion.

your opinion is respected. I think it simply boils down to what the person wearing it is comfortable with (in my humble opinion). It is interesting to know what others think though.

Oh I dressed in gym clothes with my CE ROO and it looked fine actually :). I'd wear an all gold ROC with gym clothes too if I had one. Now I think like a patek you can't do that with. A patek in gym clothes would look a bit weird unless it was the all gold or steel nautilus. Maybe even then it would still be strange. Patek just seems more dressy/aka for the older discerning gentleman.

or has the dial shade been untouched since its 2012 introduction?

Can't speak for the 15400 but the 15202 dial became a touch darker sometime in the I series. It was noted here by several members.
