Megan, upon bringing a watch into the UK, VAT is payable.
This almost always makes the price higher than UK RRP. Add travel to Malaysia etc and this would end up a hugely expensive D-Blue. Also bear in mind we have our own Grey Market where for a bit over list you can buy a D-Blue anyway.

Better advice is as per further up. Hit the phones and get travelling around UK ADs. You will eventually source one at RRP.

Understood Sir . It's just that if One decides to visit Malaysia as part of their itinerary programme or a destination for a working holiday , then it might make the trip all worth while after all. (Tourists are also entitled to a 4.8% Goods & Service Tax / GST refund upon departure ). The weak Malaysian ringgit and its strategic location between Hong Kong Kong & Singapore makes prices very competitive here .The tourism industry including Medical Tourism contributes about 15-16% of Malaysia's GDP and it's really second nature to us Malaysians to welcome everyone here. Ask any Malaysians abroad & they'll tell you the same thing

Anyway I was just offering my thoughts and ideas. No harm done

I spent Friday calling numerous AD's, most were happy to add me to their lists, several wouldn't add me as I wasn't local to them and one stated that these watches are offered by their head office to the customers that had spent the most money with them. I found one dealer with a list of only 6, the salesperson stated the reason for the small list is because the shop holds onto the Warranty for 12 months in order to stop buyers (private and grey dealers) flipping the watch straight away.

Hop on easyJet, readily available here in Zurich at the moment

I really can't stand this, it's 2017. All they are there for is to sell a watch and be done with it. Who cares if someone is local or not.

Most of the ads I deal with want their most saught after watches to go to locals that they know. I know one time I purchased a "saught after" SS model, I called an AD not local but only about 50 miles away. I really had to plead my case to be put on their list, explaining I had business interest in the local area, and had family living close by. They were firm that they want these watches to go to locals, but I managed to show enough of a link to the area to be added to their list.

They can then be a bit more certain they aren't selling to a flipper and that their watch won't end up on the grey market with their name on the warranty card. Trust me, this matters to ADs.

Their reputation is everything, and they want to be squeaky clean and whiter than white to Rolex. Rolex pull the strings and any ADs who do not meat their criteria are likely to be chopped.

(I am only speaking about UK here)

Why not? Makes total sense to me. If a watch is extremely hard to come by for the AD let alone a customer, it's logical to want to sell it to someone local who will almost certainly be a good existing customer and more likely continue to be one, than to sell it to someone hundreds of miles away who will have no intention of buying again. There will also be a high likelihood that they just want to flip at a profit.

My AD sold me my ceramic Daytona and deep sea blue as I'm local, loyal and a good client. They point blank wouldn't sell the Daytona to anyone whose not a regular client.

They are a business and will act in the interest of their business.

As others have suggested, start working the phones. I'm certain one will turn up in less than 10 years.

I fully agree. I would probably do the same thing if I were my store but I'm a customer, so I think like one.

I still don't understand how the UK is lacking in SS watches. It costs literally nothing to fly to several big European cities so UK Rolex dealers are/should be missing out. But seeing all these threads I don't think anyone is buying a plane ticket.

Well some ADs must be flipping on their allocated DaytonaCs to the grey market without too much concern?

Maybe they are but they get caught out by Rolex and that's no more AD for them. Not worth the risk.

I think some countries AD's like Italy and Greece seem to get away with more. The UK much tighter.

Get a plane ticket and go get one. The Uk, especially London is a joke when it comes to SS. Some flipping ADs will even tell you there's a wait to get on the waiting list.

Congratulations. That was a dam sight quicker than any AD quotes I bet you had.

These lists seem to be a bit of a farce tbh.
