Just met the Basel 2017 novelties in person

Edit: Pictures below

Turns out the blue Sky Dweller is better in the pictures. The blue is far less vibrant than I had expected.

However, the white one is absolutely fabulous. It's not flat white, but rather a very light ivory/silver. An absolutely fantastic watch. Took pictures, but have to find out how to post them first.

Of, by the way, the Sea Dweller has a satin dial, not glossy. It sits really high on the wrist. Had it side by side with the James Cameron Deep Sea. Less of a difference than expected. Both feel about the same on the wrist. The new SD43 is better proportioned when seen from above, whereas the Deep Sea felt more special. Both too big for me.

Wow! Was not expecting to hear that the Sea-Dweller sits as high as the DSSD. I wonder if that'll put a lot of people off in buying that watch. I'm looking forward to trying it on myself.

That Daytona was really awesome as well, however, still too small for me I'm afraid.

The guy was just unpacking the exhibition models when we hit the boutique, we were the very first to see them.

Thanks fred, I was leaning white to begin with. How did it feel on the wrist? Was it top heavy at all?

No, really comfortable, but of course, without the movement in it, it's hard to tell. If anything my concern was that the the ring command bezel felt very wobbly. Had about half a mm of vertical play in it. Don't know if that's supposed to be like this or also due to the movement not being in the exhibition piece.

Thanks for the report! I've been a fan of the white faces Sky-d since I saw it. Can't wait to get a peek myself!

What was the weight of the Sky-d like? I loved how the full white gold felt butnwondering how much less it will feel now that it is SS

Like that Daytona. You are right. The white dial looks different with the lighting in one of your shots.

Like I said above, hard to tell due to missing movement, but not very much unlike my GMT, so definitely not the heft of a gold piece. Side by side I'd say the WG Daytona on Oysterflex had more heft than the SkD.

Yes, did not really do it for us though. Sunburst is a bit weird with the black imho.

Was always wondering this.

Are the links on the Daytona fixed or not? It would look stunning on an oyster bracelet.

Great information Fred, thank you for sharing.

I guess you've quelched any speculation about the SD43 dial I was hoping for a satin finish

I think so, if for no other reason to avoid people bribing their way into purchasing the exhibition models. Demand seems to be quite high, the guy who came after us placed an order for an SkD and the new SD about 5 min into his viewing session.

I unscrewed the crown just for fun and suddenly held it in my hand with just the crown stem on it, so really, nothing remotely movement like in there.

Looked like fixed ones to me (like strap SkD), but not entirely sure, sorry.

Great info. I didn't like the look of the blue face Skydweller from the beginning. The white looks beautiful

Hmmm can't say this photo of the white gold Daytona does much for me, I think I might be leaning towards the yellow gold version

Thanks for the pics. The SkyD blue looks like the DJ2 blue which is a little darker than the Bluesy's but still very nice.

Did you think the Sea Dweller was almost the same thickness as the DSSD? Surely it is 2/3mm thinner.

Nice report, thanks.

FYI - AFAIK, they put in the watch a weight that weighs the same as the movement in order to give the feel.

Any profile pics of the new SD?

I can conur they do make it the correct weight, well they did with the Basel 16 models as I had my 116500 next to a demo and they felt exactly the same weight.
