Incoming! 5205g

With a new child on the way, a promotion at work and a new home in 2021. I decided to splurge and get my first Patek.

Always wanted a watch with a moonphase and i was looking at the VC fifty six annual calendar. Did more research and stumbled upon the 5205g and had the opportunity to view both the watches at different ADs. Granted both are at different price points but the Patek was really love at first sight.

Had some issues with my credit cards and had to go back to the AD a week later but the AD gladly kept it for me (had to place a deposit), shoutouts to the AD at Ion Orchard.

Would take this over the crazy mark ups for the hype models any day as that blue dial is just out of this world. This should definitely scratch the new watch itch for at least 5 years, or at least i hope it does..

Very nice, that was my first Patek. It's the younger man's Annual Calendar IMO, pretty versatile.

Gorgeous! Congratulations!

What's your opinion on the buckle? I too am looking at a 5205 and have heard mixed reviews on the prong buckle vs adding the deployant buckle.

Congrats on all fronts! I've also been looking at the 5205(g/r) for my first Patek hopefully by end of 2021.

It's tough one for me between going grey to save a few bucks, or acquire locally with an AD that also sells other brands including Rolex to get a nice boost in spend/history.

It's pretty comfortable so far and looks great. You could always add a new strap and deployant down the line when the standard strap wears out.

Of course it coming standard issue on deployant would be better but the case and dial of the watch makes it a non issue to me.

I went through the AD mainly because i wanted my name of the papers, as one day all my watches are going to my children.

I could have saved some money but i wanted the peace of mind that I'm the first owner and that everything is in order with the watch. Really no wrong choice going new or grey here. At least theres no crazy premiums for this model yet

Congrats on the new home, new baby, and of course the watch! 5205 series is the nicest looking dress watch Patek makes. Blue dial adds an element of sportiness. Keep the pictures coming!

Good point on the paperwork, I like that added touch especially if they are to be passed down. I'm sure you'll enjoy for the years ahead and hope to join the club in 2021 as well!

which one does it come with? tang buckle or deployment clasp?

the deployment clasp is so nice looking and identifiable from miles away. it helps balances the watch head weight and could prevent the fall of the watch and further damage when you take it off.
two negative points about it is:
1- sometimes and depending on the size of your wrist, it could rub against your bone which is not very comfortable.
2- if you had to buy it afterwards it is not chap (i believe between 2,000 and 3,000 CHF).

the tang buckle pros are:
better fitting
the tang buckle cons:
1- there is a chance it slips away when you are taking off the watch causing the watch to fall which could cause a scratch or broken glass.
2- over time it damages to small holes on the strap causing it to age faster

i like your way of thinking to leave watches with your name to your children. that is so thoughtful. what a great dad

It comes with the tang buckle in white gold. I've never dropped my watches putting it onto its buckle before (so far).

It being a leather strap in a humid country like Singapore means that it will definitely not last very long so i may get a rubber strap for it in the future when it's time to be replaced.

I got to agree that the deployant does look fantastic but i guess the buckle helps keep the watch abit more low key.

The watch wears small and wraps around the wrist very nicely, so i do not have any issues with the balance of the watch on the buckle. Definitely not top heavy at all.

Congratulations for an amazing year. 2505G-013 is gorgeous. I plan it for my first PP as well.
Any idea if there will be a 2505P with blue dial?
