Glad I found this site

Found this site and it gave me the idea to get all my Boxes and paperwork out for all my watches.

I have a 1988 Datejust that I havent had out of the box in about 10yrs. Well got the box out of the safe tonight and opened the box to find that my safe must have some damp in it and the leather interior of the Datejust box has welded itself to the watch, all over the face and the strap.
I have just spent the last hour cleaning the watch up.

Not good !

But what would a one owner UK supplied Datejust (16014) be worth. 1988
All the boxes, tags, and paperwork.

Not that I would ever sell it as its priceless to me (Late Fathers Watch)

It would be worth about £ 2,000, I guess.

Sorry. My fault for assuming. You not only have the bug, but are part of the group that freely spreads the Rolex illness to others> What are you looking to purchase?

1st stop is a 16610 Submariner A/P serial from 2000
And then a 16610 LV - I use to own one, but sold it. Now I miss it .

Thank you daunwaun, I gave those up about 13 yrs ago

I havent any pictures of the watch at the moment, Its the first time Ive seen it in about 10 yrs. But will try and take one or two tomorrow.

Im going up to the RSC in the next week or so with my YM as its due a service, so will take the datejust along too, as when I was younger I scratched the face and had a local watch shop chnage it for me, so I am unsure it has an original glass to it. If it hasnt I will ask them to replace it to original spec.

Well I have just had an offer, In PX. But a lot lower than that. To be fair, Even the £2k shocked me

Now I have always said I would never sell it. But .... and here's the but.
I havent worn it in 10 yrs and am unlikely too in the next 10 yrs.
But if I PX'ed it for something that I would wear I would surely have a connection with that watch ?
I know its my late fathers, but is not something I can connect with in the way I can with other treasured thing around me ....

Wha do you think ??

Um....

What is PX?

If it was your dad's I would keep it. Do you have a son? Or even a daughter? They might appreciate it as a gift when they graduate university or the like.

I do, but they are not interested in "an old" watch... It was the same for me of that age.
I feel little connection to the watch, If I did I would have worn it more. I had forgotten it was in the safe until I joined here.

If I Part Exchanged (PX) it for a Sub LV Its a watch I Like and would wear... It would actually mean more to me ... I think

We all have a soft spot for the classics.... Beautiful watch that should be cherished. Some things are priceless.

It's your choice my friend but my advice would be not to part exchange that watch....in fact please don't part exchange that watch.

You already miss your old LV and that seemingly has no sentimental value to it...if you lost that watch (and it is a damn goodlooking DJ...just ask Bo) there will be a time when you'd regret and miss it. That watch was your fathers and will always give you an emotional attachment/memory to your times with him.

LV's will come and go, you can buy one whenever....there is only one watch of your fathers making it a very special edition...your kids may not like it now but one day they will appreciate everything their grandfather saw in his 'old watch'. Trust me, this is from a guy who knows....

That's a beautiful DJ, "Wish"!

Btw.: you can add your name in the "User CP" (edit profile) section if you like. That will give you a more personal experience here when we can address you by your first name.

Hi Wish and welcome to the nut house.
Where abouts in Kent are you?
I am also in Kent, sunny Sheerness

I have a Seiko that was my late Dads and then my Grandads as my Dad died young and I don't wear that very often, but I could never part with it.
Wear the DJ for a while and see if it starts to smile at you.

Spark (Mark).

Still not sure what to do about the watch. I am going to do a deal tomorrow, with or without the DJ.

Well, small world.
Good luck on the deal and do what makes you happy
After all putting any sentimental value aside it is only a watch.

I have some family around Barham, Deal and Nonington.
