Best First Panerai

Hi all, what do you suggest is the best first Panerai one should get? I tend to gravitate to the Luminor range. I also want prefer to get something pre-owned. Your suggestions are much appreciated.

I owned a couple of Luminors myself and absolutely love them. I definitely recommend you buying a used one from a trusted site with box and papers and a couple of changeable straps. You're going to love it. It's a very masculine, yet refined and good looking watch and gets a lot of complements. Hope that helps

Cheers

Do you have any suggestions about particular references? I was thinking about something like a PAM 111, after a RTF member suggested it.

111 or 112 should be your first.

So many would serve as great firsts …

I’ll say the 372. It’s about as classic as they come, and won’t break the bank

104 is a nice option too. Automatic mov’t. Reasonable price, cool inverted date magnifier, polished 44mm case.

I agree with Brian! The Panerai 372 would be a great choice as long as you can wear 47mm .Classic and perfect Panerai DNA!

Any of the above, but the Luminor is my favorite lineup. Looks for the Luminor with the 1950 case. The Berterini case is slightly sleek and smaller.

Best 42MM choice: PAM 392

If you are looking for a 42mm Luminor with the classic 1950 case design, my vote is the PAM 392. It is a slightly downsized version of the PAM 312: 42mm vs. 44mm diameter case; 17mm vs. 18mm thick case.

Clean, classic dial with 22m wide strap so it doesn't swallow your arm. The weight is comfortable and it has a slightly domed crystal. Ignore anyone complaining about the case thickness and weight - it's nonsense. The PAM 392 wears like a Tudor Black Bay (41mm).

I owned/loved a PAM 233 (still my favorite model of all time), but the 44mm case was slightly too large on my 6.75" wrist.

Depends on your taste and size preference. For me it would be a 372 or 422.

If you're looking for a first Panerai watch and you're into the Luminor range, I'd recommend checking out the Panerai Luminor Base Logo. It's a classic choice and has a timeless design.

I agree that a 44mm oldie is a great place to start. You can always size up to a 47mm later once you catch the panerai bug!

my first was the pam 104, then i went with 000, but ultimately ended up with the 233. I should have gone 233 from the very start.

Panerai have more models than most.

I would look for a 231.

I'd say 11, 441, or 1312 (black) / 1313 (blue)

Here's my Panerai PAM 250 Daylight chronograph that I bought off eBay about 10yrs ago. Love the watch! It came with box, papers, leather, and rubber bands with strap changing tool. It has a 44mm case, a bit big for my wrist, but I like it.

If I were to get another one, it would be a used PAM 88 or the new PAM 01367. I have a thing for chronographs and GMTs.

Was not familiar with the Pam 250. It’s a beauty.

Just bought a 1335 and love it, so light in weight compared to all my other watches. The blue dial with gold numbers and hands is cool along with the blue suede (think it's lambskin) strap. Had Subs in the past but this is my only Pam right now.
