First try at HARD, er HDR...
This is my first attempt at an HDR (high dynamic range) image. They should just call this HARD instead of HDR....
Johns_Mtn_800.jpg It's an overlook at John's Mountain Wildlife Management Area. When I saw the clouds and how the light was playing on them, I just had to try. Rawhyde |

Nice pic, but looks a little un-natural.
I'm not familiar with HDR. What does it do? |

HDR means "high dynamic range". Basically for a scene that has bright light as well as very dark/fine details that has more than 8 f-stops range, one would use this technique to show both highlights as well as shadows details. Mainly you take several pictures of the same subject using different exposure settings and then HDR/merge them into a 32 bit image using software. Photoshop, and specialist software such as photomatrix can do a very decent job. See their website www.hdrsoft.com. The key to HDR is to make sure the picture doesn't look unnatural.

It is my first attempt, and it's a little overcooked. I'm planning to work on it some more as I get time later in the week. I agree that it looks somewhat unnatural, but the actual scene had some of that "unnatural" look to it in real life...
