Sneakers for Explorer I
Hi all,
I just joined TRF after a long hiatus from watch appreciation. I had been a member of WUS about 7 yrs ago — not sure how you all feel about other platforms. I enjoyed a humble collection of mid-tier pieces until my material interests waned. Ultimately, I fell short of ever owning a Rolex. What was the deterrent you may ask? Well, simply put, I became a +30 yr old sneakerhead. Though my passion for sneakers and fashion still holds strong, I recently feel compelled to sure that up with my earlier interest for timepieces. It will be a culmination, if you will, of all things I appreciate for its design and utility as a means to express myself. I am turning 40 yrs old this June and I want to mark the occasion by purchasing an Explorer I. I am considering either a ref. 114270 or 214270 mk2 — I’ll have to try on each numerous of times to decide. Also, part of this acquisition will be to commemorate the shrinking of my sneaker collection which is no easy task in itself. This will go hand-in-hand with funding the new-to-me watch. I’m shooting for balance. I’ve learned SS sport models are becoming harder to come by, and in the case of the Explorer line, the current models are even more in jeopardy due to its anniversary. I’m aware they could be discontinued which lessens availability and raises Grey market prices. By the time June rolls around, do you think it’s worth a shot trying to source it via an AD? I’m thinking Grey may work better for my timing, and I’m already planning on paying up. I realize my plights may be trivial to some as they cannot relate, but that’s my intro. story. Nevertheless, I’m here to learn and appreciate with you all. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Welcome bboybatac.
A 214270 should not be very difficult to obtain from a Rolex dealer. You may have a couple months wait or so, but certainly they are available. More easily than some other models.

In my experience it was a 2 month wait before one became available at the AD.
Hopefully you find the watch you want and pick up the 1s releasing this saturada :) Enviado desde mi iPhone utilizando Tapatalk

Two months is not long at all. Though I'll be popping my head into the AD, my plan is to begin putting in requests in June. I realize I won't get the watch on my wrist on my actually birthday, but this is a big purchase for me. Again, I have yet to buy any Rolex with an AD. Is the Explorer I an entry purchase within the likes of a DJ to begin developing a dealer relationship? Granted the model I want is not at the level of a sub, GMT, Daytona, etc., it technically is still a SS sports model. |
