Agree with the above, Sub date, is versatile and will hold the test of time (awful pun!)
Can't go wrong with a DJ41 on the oyster strap too. I find it classic, sporty and classy. Works well casual and dressed up. Obtainable under budget and comes in many a dial to suit your taste. |

It's been a year since the OP started this thread. It looks like he's considering a YG Day Date 40.

This is unfortunately a tough decision. I say unfortunate because often times this is how it goes:
Step 1: Want a Rolex Step 2: Can't see or try one on at AD. Get frustrated. Step 3: Look at Omega. Can get multiple watches with that money! Step 4: Lament that Omega will not scratch a Rolex itch. Step 5: Get that Sub at all costs! Step 6: Love the Sub. Step 7: Feel like literally everyone has a Sub and now you wish you got something else. Step 8: But you don't wish you got something else. You just want something ADDITIONAL. Step 9: You buy too many watches. Step 10: You sell your bullshit watches and somehow end up with a Speedmaster in your collection anyway? Step 11: Love JLC and Lange! Step 12: ...but buy more Rolex anyway |

If you are still debating this, and without knowing about the particular style you would like, I'd recommend buying a Submariner (without a prior purchase history, you are likely looking at secondary market, and the 40mm size is what will be in your price range). It's probably the most iconic watch ever made, it's the watch that a crazy portion of all other watches trace their styling and design to, it will hold it's value like none other (unless you pay a crazy amount on the secondary market), and it is perfectly capable of being something you wear only on special occasions or holding up to daily use.

Don't go crazy. Buy a Datejust. The best-selling Rolex with endless possibilities.

Zenith Chronomaster Sport. Better than Rolex Daytona.

Explorer 1 or Explorer 2, Milgauss or, my personal choice, an Oyster Perpetual.

Submariner 114060 or 124060. I have both date and no date, trust me you don’t need the date. Not only is it the cleanest, most iconic look, I love putting it on and not worrying about if the date is correct or not. It is also the only submariner that doesn’t have different color bezel options, TT or PM options, etc. Rolex is sending a statement with this. The one and only, making it truly unique.

If you can get retail, Sub Date or No date (your preference) are no brainers.
Otherwise I'd prob get a Hesalite Speedmaster + BB58 Blue |

I would opt for a DJ.
Or, a Tudor and a Speedy. Or, an OP and a Speedy. Or, Op and a Tudor. |

Buy it new and watch it take a 40% hit before you even get into your car at the mall to drive home. Buy a SS or TT Rolex (even a 5 digit reference) and watch it rise in value. The way it is. |

1 watch - I’d go GMT or DJ41
Many recommend the Submariner but with it’s brushed only bracelet I found it very boring and didn’t dress up, both GMT and DJ41 have polished centre links which make all the difference |

Submariner. Will go up in value and it is arguably the all time iconic wrist watch. Does exactly what it's supposed to, is indestructible, GADA, and did I mention it will go up in value? Yeah...I think I did. No brainer. Better to buy a 20 dollar bill for 10 dollars than to pay 5 dollars for 3.....right?

Here's a watch that you can wear on a night out on the town and you can put the other $9800 into a real investment. https://www.timex.com/marlin-hand-wo...xoCvR4QAvD_BwE

For your criteria, Datejust Wimbledon dial. Great for everyday wear and can be dressed up for a night out.

Depends on what you’re looking for in a watch.
A serious candidate could be a secondhand Explorer II 16570.

I just looked at a DJ36 stainless / blue dial at the AD today. You could get one like that under your budget and have one very nice looking watch!
