Many thanks for sharing your story.

I am retired and preparing to start a job I went out and found myself at AMC movie theater.

Just wanted to pass on to you and anyone else reading this that AMC seems to have some pretty amazing programs for people with special needs designed to help them succeed. It seems like a great thing to me.

Many congrats to you and your son!!

Congratulations to your son on his great accomplishment and to his Dad for always being there for him. Thanks for sharing your story.

Only goes to show doctors don’t always get right, in your sons case, I’m glad they were wrong.

At 22 months, diagnosed with Autism. At 10, we were told he would never be independent and would require care for life. At 12, his mom couldn't deal with it and left taking his younger brother.

It has been the two of us for the last 11 years together. He does pretty well but still has some pretty limiting issues.

Fast forward to today... He got up and took a shower and started getting ready as if he was going somewhere. I asked what was going on and he replied " I didn't want to tell you dad, I wanted it to be a surprise.... I am going to work."

Without my help or knowledge, he managed to get a job at a local convenience store. His brother helped him with some of the details. Together, they ordered his social security card, filled out the paperwork, and attended the interviews.

This may not seem like a big deal to many here on the forum, but this is life changing for him... and me. I couldn't be prouder. He is currently working his first shift ( 3 hours ) and I am not to go into the store. I am busting at the seams, but am respecting his wishes.

Just thought I would share.
Wow, I saw this thread and didn’t think much of it but today I decided to take a look and see.
I’m lost for words. Incredible story, God bless you and your family. I wish him the utmost success and health.

Having seen a friend family raising an autistic child over the years, you have my upmost respect for having to go it alone and for you/your son to reach where you are today, my heart is so warm, I have no other words... Thank you for sharing this incredible story/accomplishment, and wish you guys the best Happy Easter
