I got one time too. After I posted here. They sent me the extra link.
Now with your post, I believe they did it for a purpose.

Archie Luxury spoke about doing that.

He’d remove a link, put it in his breast pocket and when the purchaser would request an extra link, he’d pull it from his pocket and offer it up for a price.

What????

I'd be pissed. You should name and shame that dealer. This is NOT what all dealers do. They are trying to rip you because a bracelet link is expensive and imagine they are doing this to all their customers thats 1000s of dollars of extra profit they are making. If it was a full gold or platinum link that adds up to HUGE money if they do this several 1000 of times.

I think this information regarding the dealer should be posted publically to warn TRF members.

When I was buying my platinum Daytona, I read about how expensive the links are (I think around $2k/each) and the extra large Rolex box that it should come in. I made sure that all was included in the purchase, even though I didn't need the last two links and never use the box.

Keeping a link is like selling a Ferrari with a half gallon of gas. Disgraceful, IMO.

Bracelet link scam by grey dealer

I do want to share the name of the dealer for the good of members of this forum. After all, the purpose if this forum is to discuss watches and help each other out. I don’t want any of you to get misled by this shady practice. First I want to clear this with the moderator. How do I contact a moderator?

If the story is true, I don't see the issue with mentioning them.

I bought an explorer 1 from a guy who purchased it at Bellagio in Vegas. The AD delivered it with 11 links. I have a 7.25 inch wrist. I'm sure that the watch came with 12 links or 13 links originally and they kept it. I talked to the seller and he assured me that he bought it new and it came that way. I have the original receipt of purchase and I believe him. This is a new watch purchase from an AD and they ran the same scam. I could be wrong and the 39mm explorer came with 11 links.

I think the name of the shady dealer should be shared to protect others from this practice. It's a public service announment really!

The irony is that if you would want to sell them the watch back they would tell you bracelet not complete and deduct!

You should post the name of this grey dealer so everyone knows and can opt to avoid them if they so choose.

Bingo. The more that gray dealers become the "necessary" evil in this hobby, the less I care about this hobby. I love watches and Rolex is by far my favorite brand, but just seeing all the crap people go through to get a watch and the crap that we are supposed to bend over and take just makes me see the retail consumer as a bunch of cucks to the gray dealers.

AD's do the same thing. It's BS on the AD's part too. But with the AD if you catch it, you can call them out on it immediately.

Its a common practice. Always ask if the bracelet has full links prior to purchase.

Maybe one day the watch and the bracelet will be sold separately.

What's the point of "buyer beware" if you don't name the seller??

I got my DSSD from an AD last month. It came with 5 links on the 6 o'clock side and 5 1/2 links on the 12 o'clock side.
