Trading in a Rolex

Guys - Any advice on trading in a Rolex? The prices I'm getting from various dealers for a watch in truly exceptional condition seem to be extremely low (25-30% below prices for similar watches on eBay).. I'm guessing they're double dipping for profits on the buy and sale?

You guessed right.. They make a profit on the retail sale and they take your watch and make a profit on it as well. Never a good idea to trade in a watch as you can sell it yourself for more then any dealer would give you for it.

It's just like getting rid of your old car when you get a new one, you pay for convenience. If you want to walk in some place with a watch you don't want and walk out with cash you won't end up with as many $$$ then if you had sold the watch yourself. If you want to maximize you selling price then you have to put some effort into it, listing it on sites like TRF, dealing with the inquiries and low ball offers, figuring out how to get paid without getting ripped off. Packaging and sending the watch off.

Thanks guys.. Makes total sense.. Its just that I've noticed most of these selling boards need tons of feedback to command a decent price and I'm not sure if I have that many watches!

Look at selling it yourself! You'll get more for it!
