Movement 1570 question

hello everyone, I am looking to restore a water damaged 1680 which has 1570 movement. I wonder if I can use a working 1570 from a OP model to replace the 1680? The op doesn't come with date function, but from my observation, both movements look the same. Thank you for your thoughts and inputs!

Movement 1570 question

The 1680 runs on a 1575, which is a 1570 base with extra parts to allow the date to function. You can use a 1570 from the OP if your watchmaker can take those extra parts from your 1680’s movement. Otherwise, they’re hard to source and you’d be better off finding a 1575. Bear in mind both have the 1570 stamp on the plate.

To add a little to this, the GMT also uses the base 1570 movement but it’s called a 1575gmt for the added date and gmt functions (more parts still).

This nomenclature is reflected in the Rolex parts manuals.

What is the opinion of your skilled and knowledgable watchmaker with extensive expertise in servicing vintage Rolex watches? Does he think you need a parts movement, or does he already have a large stock of spare parts? :-)

I would bet that someone who truly specializes in vintage Rolex has a parts supply. He/she would likely be willing to purchase any parts movement you have extra!
