My First Omega!

Hey Guys & Gals,

I have finally joined the Omega gang. I can't believe it's taken me as long as it has, I bought my first serious watch back in 2014 (an Explorer) and while I did occasionally pop into an Omega boutique nothing really used to take my fancy.

Fast forward to about 2017, I was abroad on holiday and happened into a watch store as you do and saw the Omega. I tried on a pair of Speedy's and just never really bonded with it. Perhaps it's because I never really liked chronographs otherwise I'd probably have had a Daytona in the collection which I don't.

Anyway, I've recently (by recently I mean last week lol) started looking at the Speedy and for some reason it started to appeal more and more to me. So I got in touch with the same dealer I got my Tudor BB Navy from last week and placed the order yesterday. After reading a lot online and through he forum and watching YouTube I decided to go for the Hesalite version even though I am a big fan of exhibition casebacks and so was drawn to the sapphire sandwich, but didn't like the way the sapphire created the 'halo'.

So I received the watch today and gave it try and oh my god, I absolutely love it! The allure of that Hesalite is pure beauty, it has such an amazing feel to it and the visual aesthetics are pleasing to the eye. I'd decided that I wasn't going to bother with the bracelet and go with the nato route and switch it out as from the images I've seen this is a real strap monster....but to be fair the bracelet isn't too bad.

All in all I do not regret the decision one bit and am over the moon with it (I think this pun has been used to death lol, but hey I can't put it any other way!)...I actually think it is more gorgeous than the Tudor BB Navy I just got.

Thanks for reading! Now for a few pics,

Regards,
M

My First Omega!

Beautiful, congrats! A wonderful choice. I got the exact same one very recently and could not be more pleased. Mine says “hi” from the moon:

Congratulations and weat it in good health.

I think I have seen way more incomings in the past couple of months than I have all year prior (speaking of Omega on TRF).

Sign of things to come?

Thanks guys! It does feel pretty special. Will definitely get some more pics posted in the daylight and hopefully once I change it over to nato. I have some natos from my Seiko 007, are they the same lug width?

Could be, as you've said I've also seen more and more 'fed up with Rolex so what Omega' etc threads and vids on YouTube where people are discussing this. Regardless though I am really happy with this beauty. Not the most expensive and technically amazing but it sure does have soul!

It certainly does, and to some its the last true moonwatch. Just like SubC is the last true 40mm sub to Rolex purists. LOL!

I think it will hold its value also, and will be admired for years to come.

Thanks bud, I agree. I think it's one of the better looking watches from the Omega lineup. I do really like the NTTD 300M Seamaster but it just seems a bit pricey to me.

It’s way over priced. The Moonwatch is a true icon. You did good.

Must admit, the announcement of the new Speedmaster has Omega on my brain lately.

I'd seen the review one of the forum members did on the new speedy and why he sold it, having read through that and not having seen the new one myself I feel like this original one is still a nicer watch/deal.

It is indeed a great deal, I just do not care much for the bracelet, but I can tell I will like the new bracelet even though not having seen it in person. That's really my hesitation, because I can go get a 1861 right now (well tomorrow) for an OK discount.

The good news is the 1861 comes with a killer NATO. It's actually one of my considerations for choosing the 1861.

I hate chronographs also but LOVE my speedy pro. It’s the only chrono I would ever wear, amazing watch. Huge congrats on the best purchase you have ever made.

I had the same reservations about it as you do with the bracelet, I didn't really like the look of it. But I have to admit that after wearing it isn't all that bad. But I did get it for using with natos/leather straps. Just need to find some nice ones...Don't think any longer, order it you won't regret it. Look at me, already promoting Omega lol

+1

I liked the 1861 bracelet from the beginning, but I am actually liking it even more and more every day. It suits the watch very well IMO and is very comfortable.
