Decisions...Decisions.....JLC vs Rolex vs Hublot.....
Hey Guys!
I officially graduated and got my Master's! Now it's time to celebrate and buy a watch!!!! However, been having difficulty deciding and would really appreciate your input :) I've narrowed it down to four very different watches.... My current collection: GMT-C 18K/SS, Daytona SS (Black), Chopard GMT Mille Miglia GMT. The pic of the Rolex was the best one I found on google - not mine - respect to the guy with the great photography skills. The rest of them are wrist shots In random order.... 1) Rolex Submariner 18K/SS 116613 LB - Really like the look of the watch, it's got a solid feel to it and if I was ever gonna add a blue dialed watch to the collection this one is definitely on the lists. The problem is that I feel the blue screams for attention - definitely not a under the radar watch and already have a GMT-TT and a Daytona....and I wanna kinda diversify the collection. 2) JLC - Master Control Ultra Thin 39mm Moon Phase - Love the classic look of the watch, my father loved this one the most. It's a watch makers watch, and a man's man watch! It's dressy and has a moon phase, something I dont have in the collection. But, there is certainly a lack of wrist presence. It's a boardroom watch, but I don't know if it can handle my every day roughness. 3) Hublot Areo Bang - SS/Ceramic - It's a really busy and a great looking watch, I think it's perfectly busy and it's probably the only hublot that I would get. I love the look and feel....and hublot as a brand as recently generated a great deal of respect for itself and I do believe whether anyone likes it or not...they're here to stay. However it doesn't carry the same pedigree. 4) JLC - Master Control Chronograph - bit of a left field choice, but I love chrono's and it's a JLC.....

Out of those choices I prefer the sub, although if it was a JLC chrono I would prefer this.

JLC moonphase
IF the JLC chrono had the silver dial, than probably the JLC Chrono first . Don't like the one with black dial The 2 others are nothing for me I don't like 2 tone sportswatches and Hublot is a brand which doesn't speak to me

I like them all except the Hublot....Hublot does nothing for me.
I have the Master Compressor Chrono 2 that Monte posted and I love it. One of my favorite pieces. Good luck and congrats.

First of all, congratulations on your Master's!
Now about the watch, although you do have some good choices I would personally go with the JLC moonphase. I like thin watches and I think it would offer a great contrast with your current collection of somewhat thick timepieces. As well, perhaps it doesn't look very casual and you may be afraid to smash it around but I'm the type of man who wears dressier watches with jeans everyday and never worried about the odd look of that combo (and I wear even smaller watches that are made of gold), therefore I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, the moonphase complication is, in my opinion, beautiful on a dial and I love the simplicity of this one. Of course, it remains my opinion but make sure you try them as much as you need to prior to making that purchase! Only then will you be able to say you made the right choice!

OP - If you want a watch that you're going to like in 10 years, I would put Hublot at the bottom of your list. However, if you've never looked back and wondered "what the hell was I thinking when I bought that", the Hublot would be a great way to know how that feels. |
