I like the SS black dial best of all. My AD was allocated one in 2019, one SS white dial and 2 SS blue dial. I tried on a TT champagne dial model. The gold dial was too much for me, but it did convince me that a TT black dial was a very nice combination.

If I was offered a SS black one I would snap the AD's arm off. But I would never buy a watch just because it was offered. I would pass and let it go to a home who will truly appreciate it. Unfortunately, it would be equally likely (possibly more likely) to just pass down the line to the next flipper for a fast pay day. Sad. But I would still pass. What you do is up to you.

I ended up buying the black face and picking the piece up this week. I did not buy to flip at all.... I think I worded my original question wrong in that I was only buying because it’s rare or because I could make money on it. The Sky D has always been one of the Rolex pieces that I am really drawn to.

I tried on the two tone Sky D and it fits well but agree that it’s a large watch

As for rarity, no modern Rolex watch is technically “rare”. The better term would be “hard to get”. These are watches that Rolex currently produces with no current intention of stopping. However, the SS SkyD was only released in 2017 and given the complex nature of the movement, the absolute number of units are smaller than other rolexes.

I have really enjoyed this watch. I love the annual calendar and the bonus GMT feature (I was looking for an annual calendar). It wears well. However, it is easily scratched (PCL) when compared to my SubC. It’s unique enough where I have never seen another person with a SkyD.

So get it if you have a chance. I don’t think you will regret it.
Thanks for your reply, you make many good points and I have purchased the watch and picking up this week.

Saw a black one at an AD,end of 2018.Was sold.Loved it !Have to see it in the metal .

Inquired at at another AD in 2019 ,waited three months and it arrived .Lucky !

You never get tired of a black dial .Timeless .
It is the favourite Rolex in my collection .It kills the black ss Daytona .(I own both).

Congratulations! You’re going to really enjoy the watch.

One fun thing you can do is watch the annual calendar jump from a 30 day month to the first. Unfortunately you won’t get to enjoy that feature until April!

Get what you love and don't agonize over present or future value. You will be a lot happier having a watch you enjoy rather than one with a higher perceived value. BTW none of the current Rolex references are "rare."
The blue dial SS Sky Dweller is actually classified by some ADs as rare.
