New Submariner vs. Date Just II

I have a question to all you Rolex afficianados.

Would you rather own the New Submariner Date (retail price $7,300.00) or the Date Just II (retail price $7,525.00)?

I can't seem to choose between the two.

Your review, advice, suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Depends on what you are into. Sport or dress.

Although Rolex works well in any situation.

Gus is right - it depends on whether a dress watch or a sports watch would best fit into your lifestyle right now. You can always get the other later.

Me? I would have both.

That's the dilemma i have...
I work in real estate so i feel the date just 2 would be ideal for the professional attire i often wear. But at the same time i am in my early 30's and still enjoy wearing t-shirts, jeans and shorts.

Honestly speaking, i don't know if i will ever buy another expensive watch, that's why i want to make the right decision. I've never been into expensive watches but my fiance insists on buying me a rolex as a wedding gift.

What to do?

Perhaps buy an Omega Planet Ocean and an Omega Aqua Terra (or Constellation maybe?) for the same money as either one of the Rolex?

even though im close to mid 30's, im still rocking similar casual outfit to yours most times

have both the TT DJII and past generation Sub LV, love them both and they will go with everything you wear - trust me on this one

I think a Sub looks great with a suit. I am fortunate to own a few Rolex pieces and my SS Sub Date gets the majority of my wrist time. If I could only have one it would be the one.

Can't go wrong with either one.......but your real estate clients might be more impress(if you wear it to get more sales) with DJII if they are not a WIS. The new sub will look a lot similar to the old one for the untrained eye.

I would say that Sub C works better then DJ2.
Why not buy used and you can buy both.

I would recomend the DJ II as the best course to take as I would think this would look more professional in your line of buisiness.

It's funny - I had the same dilema and just went with the DJII. I'm an accountant and usually in suits, but I also like to dress down outside of work and find that it still goes well, especially since it's SS.

Sub all the way.
I'm not a fan of the DJII, it's basically a pimped version of a classic time piece. Of course, that's just my personal opinion.

yup... very good point. The ceramic has putten a damper on the mood for both the GMT and the Subs, they just that heavy duty feel IMO. Still, the 2010 GMTs and Sub models themselves are still recognizable, not like the DJII which looks oversized and too blingy.

I disagree. I feel the DJII is a perfect marriage of classy and modern styles. 36mm has fast become a lady's size. In my opinion, the new 41mm was needed to preserve the mens DJ.

agreed to certain degree..... but then again, it all depends on the wrist size wearing the DJII.

a rounded 6" wrist will look like carrying a clock, but it would look proper on a flat 7.25" wrist

Most likely you'll buy another after this purchase. That's what most of us here did!!! My vote is for the sub...

the new datejust 2 in 41mm with white gold flutted bezel is just stunning. It's very flashy. If you want to grab someones attention get the new datejust. I would however recommend the sub date if this is your first rolex.

Thanks everyone for all your advice and suggestions.

But I chose neither the Date Just II or the New Sub.

I ended up going with the GMT Master II, and am loving my new watch.
