Winder Or Not to Winder
I recently bought another Rolex (SS Datejust, Oyster bracelet) in addition to my old trusty (Twotone SG Datejust, President bracelet).
Big question is do I really need to invest in a winder? Is there really a downside to old trusty sitting on the shelf for a few months. Sage advice sought. |

For those of us who like complications, a winder is a must. It takes me 5 minutes to reset my Breitling Olympus when it winds down - which I try not to let it do. Most of my watches have one or more complications, so I need to keep them on winders. But if you don't mind resetting the date and time, then letting it sit in the drawer between wearings will not hurt it at all.

Nancy and I have several automatic watches, and being able to pull one off the winder and wear it without screwing around resetting the date (and day with hers), is worth the price of admission to me. This was less than $100 Cdn shipped to Canada:

How long have you had your winder? We just got ours for Christmas, and so far it's worked flawlessly. I especially like the lack of noise since it's on my dresser.

I've always viewed a winder as a convience rather than a necessity. It's not going to hurt your watch sitting for a while, but as Ed says life is easier with watches with complications or as I have non-quick set dates.

If a watch is going to be out of circulation (pun intended) for more like a month or so I tend to take them out of the winder... but I'm trying to see if I can somehow extend my service intervals.

I've had it about a year now, and it is quiet and works as flawlessly as yours. An excellent investment for the multi-automatic watch owner. Not a necessity, to be sure, but indeed a nice device to have about!!!

Im definetly looking for a winder. The convience is definetly a needed for me, i hate winding my watches. Does the one you guys got have a "Fuzzy-Logic Controlled motor?" Ive been searching on ebay and it seems the one with a fuzzy logic motor go for more and are harder to come by. Thanks in advance

When I just had two Rolex's and a Tissot, it wasn't any big deal to keep everything wound. But this past summer, I've had the opportunity to expand the collection, and I purchased the same winder as Alcan pictured. I bought it off Ebay from some vendor who seems to have hundreds of them and always has seven or eight auctions going.
It's really become a needed convenience for me. Mine is a less expensive one, but has performed flawlessly on battery power. If you get one and you don't have the handy electrical outlet nearby, then make sure the winder will run on batteries. I've also seen reasonably priced winders on the Sharper Image site in their 'outlet' section. That model only accomodates one watch, but the price is right and it runs on battery and AC power.. |

I would go for not winder, if it's in motion it has friction and wears out.
