does anyone ever ask to see your watch?

this only happens with LV, but people always insist that i take it off so they can look at it. I am very protective and will never hand over my time piece to anyone unless they are willing to write me a check that i can cash for the replacement value of my watch.

do you guys take your watches off freely? IMO it seems kinda tacky to take it off and say "here look at my 5k timepiece!"

ok im rambling....i find myself making up some strange rules for my watches...

Some people ask. Mostly friends and family. They dont believe i sport a rolex. Im 25 and broke! hahah

I've never been asked about the sd. I guess its a standard looking watch, all ss, black dial.
But the Pam sure attracts attention but I think its the strap more than the watch. If I wear the Pam with a thick honey strap (Crazy Horse or Folkler) people notice and ask. If I wear the watch with a plain black strap no one seems to notice.

Folks are happy if I just hold out my wrist, but some may have "that look" on their face. I usually give in and let them hold it. I let a $500/mo clerk in a store hold my new TTGMT. He gave me free stuff with my purchase just for letting him hold my watch for two minutes!

I have let a few people hold it, even try it on. I think that a Rolex, as with any fine piece of jewelery, art, car..etc should be shared with people if they have a genuine interest. Some people will never own one, but they can still appreciate fine craftsmanship.
I had a friend ask me if it was real. I took it off and gave it to him and said.."OK Sherlock, you tell me, you seem to know more about them then me". He never asked again.

If I get asked (which is not often) a simple show of the wrist will do, however if it is a friend, then it comes off, but not before letting them know - You bend it, you mend it.

Some of my friends that know I'm a WIS ask to see what I'm wearing. The GMT II does get "the look" from people that know Rolex. My Tag Heuer Monaco [Steve McQueen] gets the most comments from the general public.
I rarely take my watch off for further examination unless it's someone who's really addicted like me.

Alot of people seem to stare at my LV. So far only family has asked to actually see it.

I have had many people ask to see my Breitling (Windrider Cockpit, MOP dial). However, I owned it for 1 1/2 years and it is bright polished steel throughout and pretty thick making it more noticeable.

I have only had the LV for less than a month though. Time will tell.

When I had the DD diamond encrusted watch, I would go to the Mall and show those gold jewelry island guys my watch. I would insist the diamonds were real and they said "no Way" I asked did they have a diamond tester and they tested each diamond on the bezel and the diamond meter proved that all my diamonds were real. One guy had sweat across his brow. I happily took my watch out of his hand at the jewelry counter.

The only person has noticed/asked about ANY of my watches was my mother-in-law!. She was curious about my watch that has a bright orange dial, apart from that no-one has noticed what I'm wearing (and why should they really - unless the person was into watches also but I've never met such a person yet, thats what so good about these types of forums ).

Only a couple times did girls I know ask to try on my watch... one was enamored of the Seiko on the green Zulu... and asked really sweetly.

Then, the other night K and D (my party buddies) got way into my older GMT II... Kelly mentioned that she wants a Sub. Daneta passed on the idea of a watch...

Just yesterday, a co-worker came into my office on business and checked out the Lange Pt. Perpetual. I took it off the wrist and let him check out the watch for a coulple of minutes. It never occured to me to say no, and I sure as heck didn't tell him the price--he might have dropped it after going in shock!!
The co worker had on a nice black on black GMT II.

I have more fun sharing with people that I know that I own a PS3. Although its at home, i feel safe and secure. As far as my Rolex hobby, I strictly share info on this site. I don't have to get into explaining why I spent my money them. I would always here others advice on the money issue. Silence is golden

I'm not sure how I'd react to a stranger asking. But I gladly let friends look/hold it. I was 24 when I bought my watch. The first person to comment on it was a co-worker. I forgot the exact context, but he said something like "and the fake Rolex on Rob's wrist". I remember laughing and handing it to him, so he could examine my "fake" Rolex. After looking at it he concluded it wasn't fake.

So far I'd only let 2 buddies hold my watch in their hands. Both were integral parts to my quest for my first Rolex (which was an SD).

However, before I handed it over (in private), I closed and locked the clasp

I do remember those people with whom I shared conversations with about my quest for a Rolex and the particularily disparaging views/words they had towards my intentions of getting it. To those people, I would never let them hold it much less tell them I got it.

only once with my rolex did someone ask, i told him you look with your eyes not your hands and made a joke(he was a big guy and i was unsure of my 'chances' should he try anything ) however when i talk to colleagues who all assume that you have to be loaded to have a rolex- not the young guy with a scooter!- i let them look.

my corum bubble got the most attention of any watch i've had- i was young and it matched my personality at the time- big, fat and flash!

Nice... a jacob or a rollie? My dad has a rollie with a green face and diamonds all around the bezel, he has it in a safe somewhere he told me, haven't seen in it in a long time. Think he paid 60,000 for it, like 10 years ago, not sure about the time and price though.

i have the ps3 and a wii....lol im a video game fanatic too. i need to drop one of these expensive hobbies.
