Patek 5235

I dropped by my AD today to pick up a new rubber strap for my Panerai.

I have been mulling over an annual or a perpetual. Perpetual would have to wait....annual...it’s not a perpetual.

She pulled this out

Have to say...I am very tempted.

Would love feedback from any owners. Looks like a bit of a scratch magnet. I do wear my watches, in rotation.

I see they are not that sought after. Any cons as a timepiece.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Cheers.

I heard you can get huge discounts on these. If you LOVE it buy it RIGHT. I don’t think they are scratch magnets.

The 5235G was very difficult to obtain 3-4 years ago and sold for way over MSRP at auctions. It is Patek's first regulator and a new movement was designed specifically for this watch.

Reading the dial takes some getting used to, but you get used to it after a short while. It will probably remain a collector's watch.

I bought it for 42.5 bnib and sold it for 35. The dial is cool in some lights but it’s hard to tell time on and the AC windows are different sizes, which drove me nuts. I know very few people who kept it long term. I’d rather have the 5205r.

Very helpful. Legibility was an issue for me. My eyes have gotten to the point that I really dont want smaller references any longer. Did you find it picks up scuffs and scrapes? I have never worn a gold watch. All stainless. I am careful but life happens...I have an AP Royal Oak and will only wear it with certain cuffs for that reason. Assume gold is more scratchable than SS?

Thanks. My AD is not really moving on price. Never bought a PP from them...only certain Rolex and Panerai. That was a few years ago.loooking to reestablish a connection. Ultimately looking for a perpetual Chrono which is my grail. (I know...in the words of Spock...wanting is better than having)

In the interim I was looking for for an annual. Test drove a 5146g which is classic and would be a perfect daily but the unique look of the 5235 has me thinking.

Thanks

I did the research on the workings. Have to say I was very impressed. I will not say that I am a wis but I like some of the non traditional parts used.

Appreciate the feedback.

Getting some mixed feedback. Most people think it’s cool but people don’t tell me it’s a keeper. Sizing of appetures can be an issue. Any other specific reasons people flipped theirs on rather than keeping?

Thx

Reading the dial takes some time getting used to but you can get used to it after a short while as mentioned earlier and legibility is not an issue when you are used to it.

Day and month apertures are different size and it is more obvious compared to 5960A. However it does not bother me and I feel it is purely personal preference.

I have noted that my WG Pateks pick up more scratches compared to other Pateks I own.

5235G is not rare at the moment and it can be sourced very easily and a good discount is possible

The movement is really lovely.

As others have said it is not so strong on the secondary market. If I recall they were released very slowly when they first came out, it was believed the movements needed some tweaking. All seems to be worked out now, haven’t heard any negative reports.

Overall it’s a great looking watchand I also would consider it a scratch magnet.

Your AD would not see my business playing hardball in this one.

Ps. Looking at the image you posted, the watch looks big for your wrist.

Not sure I’m with you on the 5235. Thought I like it initially but I’ll rather get a 5960g. Bioreactor useful complication IMO.

Very unique and cool watch. No go for me if there is no discount on this piece.

Really love mine

Go for it if it sings to you.

It's not as popular as the naut and aqua but it's a real WIS watch.

Lots of people suggesting asking for a discount.

What do you believe is a reasonable price? Not a steal but fmv for a deal with and AD for a new watch with warranty? $40k?

15 - 20% would be a good discount.

if your AD is willing to move you up on the 5711/12 waiting list or get you a 5740 or give you a first shot at the next anniversary/special pieces then YES. I think it's a lovely piece.

I put a deposit down today for the 5235. It’s different from what I have and I just love the look. It will be worn in a daily rotation but I think it can be both dress and casual.

Now I have to find a moonphase. Dream of a 5970....

Appreciate all the feedback

Congrats in advance.

FWIW, I was nervous about the tang buckle so I bought a WG calatrava deployant for it. Maybe your AD can get you one at cost...

Thanks for the kind words

I have to get a short strap which is being ordered and supplied for free. Was also toying with a deployment but that pin buckle is unique. Will have to play that by ear

Pretty happy with this choice.
