Aquanaut Travel Time

Since the moment I had the 5650G for the first time on my wrist I fell completely in love with the Aquanaut Travel Time. Such a great complication and such a soft and comfy feeling on the wrist.

Have you realized that the 5650G has an applied luminescent hour marker at 6.00, whereas the 5164 hasn't?

Additionally it seems that the 5650G has a thinner bezel than the 5164. Can anybody confirm this or is this just an optical illusion?

I wonder if Patek will release a blue dial 5164G soon and if yes which layout they will use...

as far as the dial, i think the "crab" caused the arabic number 9 (the 3 is too if you look at both references) to be pushed further inward which caused the date sub dial to also be pushed up to balance the dial vs the 5164 thus allowing the space for the 6 o'clock hour marker. I think the design was because of the nature of the reference as opposed to a new dial layout for regular models going forward. Just a guess.

The bezel might be thinner if the dial is bigger. Looking at it closely, it may be.

When I saw it in person it definitely looked like the 5650G has a thinner bezel than the 5164A, but bigger dial.

Kevin (incontrol) can more definitively confirm as I believe he has both?

And amazing watch by the way. It wasn't my cup of tea when it came out but I've grown to like it. But at the current grey market price, I'd much rather have a 5270G.

My informed guess would be that while the 5950g has the AR movement, the date arbor is the same distance from the center arbor as it would be on a 5167. This would move it up slightly in the grand scheme of the watch. This in accordance with a slightly thinner bezel would allow for the lume at 6. It’s hard to tell about then width of the bezel because the lume is so small it might Just be due to dial size

Bezel does look a touch slimmer.

As for a blue 5164G, well if they do only fair to also release a black 5711/1G or 12/1G... but I think TS thinks he wants to move PP away from being a sports brand so I don't see new models.

I haven't great hope. Patek could demand a nice premium for precious metal and there is a high demand for blue dials anyway...

Can only repeat what has already been said above. Yes, the bezel do look a tiny bit thinner on the 5650G. And a blue 5164, yes please!

Cheers,
Joe

i would bet on a 5164G at some point, less of a chance a blue dial in SS.

I’m glad I don’t own that watch... I’d break it quickly from playing with the pushers to see the movement all the time!

Or to put it indelicately, it's a case of Thierry Nazi declaring, No more SS for you!

Yes, that is a problem Mike!

I am not that observant. I just wear them. I learned much about these watches just reading this thread. I need to look closer now.

Thanks for pointing out these differences.
