Can I put a deposit down for 5712 (AD)
Guys fairly new here please don't ridicule me. I want to put a deposit down for a new one from an AD.
Seems quite tough so people are not even taking names. Can any one please help. Would appreciate a good connection. regards, |

its going to be difficult. I would wait until at least mid march as maybe some people will have removed themselves from the waitlist after the price rise. Its possible but not a guarantee, but it may be the best option
Its a very hard piece to get without an already established AD relationship. |

I would have a discussion about how many people are a head of you and how long they estimate to clear the list. It will probably take longer than their estimate because of those who might get added later and are VIP's, but it should give you a ballpark. I would also check outside NYC though as that is going to be harder. |

I asked about a deposit. Was told no need for one as it wouldn’t help my position at all.

A year ago at this time, you could get a 5712/1A SS at my AD fairly easily (3-6 month wait), but after the Patek Exhibition all the hype rolled in. It's now a crazy wait for the 11 & 12 talking years and years unless you have really spend hundreds of thousands at your AD. I have not spent hundreds of thousands at my AD.

good timing on a delivery, a good AD, and got it before the demand took of to the level its at today.
That would not happen today for sure, so that just shows how crazy its gotten since just last summer. |

Unfortunately any “confirmation” you get for your name and position on a list will be verbal at best and non-binding so basically means nothing. If you find an AD or two who says they will put you on a list, you prob should drop in periodically to chat and develop a relationship and certainly while you are waiting if you buy a few watches that will certainly help. No it doesn’t. If some big spending VIP walks in and drops big money and then asks for a 5712, they’re getting it.

If you’re a valued customer you will get your watch in due time. If you’re a whale you will get it fast and if you’re nobody you will be put on the “list”. People on the phone get turned away.

I still wouldn't discount calling around a little-- see if you can by chance find one- when I visited my Patek dealer about 6 months ago- they had one of those in the case, and tried to sell it to me instead of the Aquanaut i wanted... I passed as I really don't like a complicated watch at the moment. Maybe my taste will change- but needing to know moonphases doesn't seem high on my priority list at this stage of life.
So since October-- like in the last few months-- it's gone this nutty? Weird. Must be all the cryptonaires. |

I visited a PP dealer the other day
He would not take any further names on a WL for either a 5711 or 5712. He told me his WL means nothing. He is only going to offer them to people who have bought from him before. The other reason, he told me he does not know if he will get any 5711/5712 in 2018. |

The last part is interesting. Is your AD in a big city or is it a smaller AD?

At a minimum it implies distributor level decisions on allocations to specific customers for delivery via AD and not AD's getting watches in inventory to sell to whoever. |

The lists really mean nothing at all without a solid relationship with the AD. Why would any retail dealer sell a hard to come by product to an unknown customer when a long term great customer suddenly pops up and wants one. In another words it easy to keep being skipped over. Lists are not published and no one knows what the real deal is. Prepaying in full speaks volumes.

I was put on a list early last year, and I received a white dial 5711 in December without having purchased anything from the AD. I would not say I had a solid relationship other than my occasional pop-in to say hello and talk watches.

It seems there are multiple reports about few to no 5711 or 5712 coming in 2018.....Being mentioned by many different people on different threads.
I wonder how much water it holds.

A couple of years ago I was debating if a nearly new one was worth £20K and thought no and went with RG instead... now they are £35K...

Just from speaking to a lot of them on the phone I know there are some ADs in CA that will accept deposits and have been told putting a deposit down certainly helps your positioning. With the 5712 this is true from my experience in speaking to CJ Charles (AD in La Jolla). Also, forgot the name but AD in Naples, FL accept deposits and stated it provides an advantage. Nothing is certain with any of these lists of course and I have no clue how effective the deposit really is. Just sharing my findings from speaking to various ADs -- most don't even bring up putting down a deposit.

It could be good thing or bad thing. Depending. I would assume some kind of fairness for new entrants. I am new to this and would appreciate an AD who is willing to help me get there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
