New to Rolex - Need Advice on a 16800 purchase

I've done some research and found some great information here on this forum, but I am curious if everything checks out on this Matte Dialed 16800.

The paperwork can't be correct as it has a 9.4 million serial?

As with all things Rolex, nothing is carved in stone.......

But most collectors would say that anything over 8.6 mil. (more or less) should have had a gloss dial....

There are always exceptions to the rule, but I would not purchase a 9.4 Mil. 16800 that has a Matte Dial....

Unless the original owner could prove that the watch came that way, I would pass.....

But that's only one man's opinion....

Thanks for the reply. At first I thought the paperwork might have been from another watch, but the seller confirmed the serial number matches the watch.

The paperwork may belong to the watch, but the dial may not be original to the watch.... did you end up winning this auction?

Congrats if you did, nice set!

Yes, I won the auction. I am concerned about the dial not being original to the watch and I think the crystal may be an aftermarket replacement. In hindsight, these are things I should have addressed before bidding as I have come to find out vintage watches often contain non original parts.

Personally, I believe the dial to be authentic Rolex, but I am skeptical as to whether or not it is original to the watch. For that kinda money I would want something more concretely original.

The dial is probably an authentic Rolex dial...It just doesn't belong on that watch.....
