The booming demand for vintage Datejusts

I'm sure that like other posters, I'm not the only one amazed at the increase in prices. Pieces that could be had 2-3 years ago for $1600 are now consistently selling above $4500, and even into the $5k range. Rare dials variants in perfect condition such as wideboys, linens, and tapestries will boost another $1k or so to asking prices. Who could have predicted such demand 5 years ago?

Crazy, right?

Lots of threads like this recently. What's the best investment? Why are prices so high? etc. I'm not sure there's much to add.
