We perhaps don't say or read enough of this sort of thing recently....
The recent changes in the market and all the hype have created a frenzy of buying, policy changes, profiteering and ultimately a lot of discontent
I recently got some crushing news really, as watch enthusiast, I was thinking of writing a big vent and sharing it all... But then I thought - perhaps that just adds to the negative So, instead... It's been a lifetimes preoccupation, being basically obsessed with watches. I really only count the last ten years or so though, since I "discovered" the automatic movement. In that time I've been lucky, fortunate and brave enough to traverse from omega to patek and back again. Ive really enjoyed the journey, but being of a blue collar demeanor - lots of trades and exchanges have been necessary. Never "buying to sell" but yes, moving something along to make way for the next incoming piece, has been my only economic option along the way Inevitably sometimes I've had to then rebuy something I had previously let go, just because as the collection changes, I've wanted the missing piece back again to grace the newly evolved rotation It's constantly changing. And I'm always wondering whether to stop the shuffling, as much as I love it. Sometimes I loose a good bit of money on a sale. By far the worst loss was on a 116509 (I'd never repeat that). But occasionally I've "been up" too. A lucky Daytona or Nautilus back into the stable will "right" a lot of wrongs, ... So hopefully a balance is on the horizon. It's a hobby and I'm allowed to indulge myself I suppose. But the respect I have for my income, my upbringing and how hard the money is to come by - does make me continually justify the decisions I make, for my passion to be justified. This sort of web site can be "dangerous" perhaps, as ones admirations can lead to ones aspirations if one is malleable by the posts of others - who let's face it - do seem to be on a far higher echelon. But with perspective and restraint - this watch game - has been a massive source of my life's happiness. I love everything from the history to the aesthetics... The chase to the acquisition... My little microdesires to the world wide ebb and flow of the market. It's been fascinating and palpable. Being grateful for what you have is important. Being happy with our own journey is key - let go the green eyed monster towards others. But also for those more fortunate, to be mindful of others less so, and perhaps help or guide where you can. All in all I think this is a fantastic community and I just wanted to show my appreciation and gratitude to everyone in it and for the passion we all share |

Hey! Someone who “gets it”!
Welcome to the very small and unpopular club! I too am very greatful for my meager collection. But I worked hard, made sacrifices where necessary and kept myself educated on my targets. Your post should be an inspiration to others in our camp- anything is possible through hard work and determination. |
