Have we lost our minds?
It’s amazing how Rolex and other high end brands have completely given us leave of our senses at times.
We now feel ‘lucky’ to be able to purchase from these brands, not lucky that we are fortunate to have disposable income but lucky they will let us purchase, it’s crazy..... Rolex, Ferrari etc have us completely brainwashed I’m sure there are lots of other brands I’ve missed but does anyone else think it’s madness when you boil it all down? Anyway, just a thought that popped into my head Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't feel that way at all. These are mass produced items. If it was a one off creation from a master, I'd feel blessed to have it. But no common trinket (no matter how pricey) will elicit that emotion from me.
Maybe you are beginning to regain your perspective on the relative value of mass marketed luxury goods. |

I don't feel this way at all, I simply don't buy what I have to wait for.

I do feel lucky to have the watches I have. And the life I have too.
And I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.

There is just so much money swirling about now so luxury products and exclusive products will become ever more coveted as we are seeing. Hopefully the UK will be getting back some of the £90bn of Russian black money swimming around London, courtesy of those two Oscar-winning, cathedral-loving characters basically admitting they were working for the state.

I have never felt like this, luck has little to do with success
Or maybe that is why YOU feel that way.

I agree with, “there are lots of other brands”
That don’t play these games and are available. I have been appreciating those brands more and more.

Lots of good replies and some touchy ones!
I wasn’t inferring everybody and it wasn’t personal but you only have to look at the incoming threads to see ‘Got lucky’ type threads all too often..... Anyway, obviously just me, I’ll get my coat Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

But I too have noticed that those who are relatively new to the brand and perhaps newer around here do feel this way. I've been disconnected for a while and when I pop my head in to see what's been happening I always find the the new trend. Lately, it's been the "I got lucky threads" sometimes it's the "is it safe" and the very popular "I have a friend at Rolex" I personally am "lucky" enough to be able to walk away from it all and do away as I please. Let every other sheep out there duke it out over a Hulk. Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk

another way to look at it is it gets people to impulse buy something that for that price and in any normal situation would be a hard think. If you have to buy it right now when its offered, you buy it. Probably sell more watches that way
Feeling lucky about it is a great way to take the sting out of just spending 10K. Its almost like you had no choice and you didn't really have to make the decision, it was made for you

Playing 'hard to get', is a limiting but tried and true strategy.
Works great on some, leaves others scratching their heads.

There's always been a little of this kind of thing going on with Luxury watches. Maybe just a little too much now. Really too bad. Just real glad I haven't been looking to buy any for awhile now.

its funny. I feel super lucky in life.
simply being born where I was, with the parents I have, and the opportunities I was given. and sure, I feel exceptionally lucky that I can afford the things that I can. doesn't discount talent, hard work and diligence one bit. but if people don't think they are lucky, well.....that's just silly imho.

Hard work overcomes a lot of disadvantages. Talent and hard work are pretty hard to beat. While we are all blessed with events where there's just no explaining how we succeeded (or survived), most of our lives are defined by the effort we invest more than by the miracles that we accumulate. When I was working in Iraq in 2005 an enemy rocket impacted 15 feet from my truck on the drivers side. Shrapnel blew out the window, tore off part of the steering wheel, ripped the seat loose from the floor, and shredded the door panel. I walked away without a scratch. How lucky is that? Didn't make a penny off the experience though, and you can't buy watches with experiences. I don't consider any of my luxury purchases to be in the same universe as the things I survived only by the grace of God. I really appreciate the things I've been blessed with, but I don't consider a watch monger allowing me to buy a Rolex among my blessings. Maybe I'm lucky to have the patience to wait for the current volatility to subside before buying another watch. |

not gonna lie though, I also feel lucky that my AD got me my BLRO. And I am grateful for it. not as grateful for being lucky that I can walk again after an accident where I was told I would have a limp for the rest of my life. but that was also due to a ton of work and effort on my part. but still...I feel lucky. I don't know...I really do feel lucky that I have my BLRO. BUT, I have been going to these guys for years. And I am good customer, and a nice person. And all sorts of other things that have helped...I still feel lucky tho.

I guess what I was meaning was not that we are lucky to be able to afford to buy the watches as that is a given, more that we are lucky that certain brands allow us to.
It’s mind blowing and also very clever I was trying to think what other brands are like this, I’m not really up on top end brands but Ferrari springs to mind as one..... It’s like your numbers coming up on the lottery and you then get to pay the lottery company the money Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Luck of the draw has far more importance i believe than most people are willing to give credit to.

Luck may very well have something to do with it. But by placing yourself in the right position more often you will tend to win more often. By the way, this isn't word for word, just the way I remember it.

I will never feel "lucky" that Rolex allows me to spend thousands of dollars on watches. But I understand what the OP is saying. It's a strange time in the Rolex world.
I do feel blessed I get to enjoy nice watches. There are other struggles I could be dealing with so having the opportunity to spend money on watches is certainly a blessing. |

I don’t like feeling manipulated by marketing/advertising or by anything else. I self reflect often.
Being played by people, corporations or politicians is extremely common so I just walk away and remember. I have a nice Rolex, and don’t need another one. |
