Advice needed

Hi every one,
Totally new in Vintage Rolex world and fond of buying a single red 1680 to wear and eventually leave behind for my son one day.
After reading and diving into all the online material about the fakes and how good the guys have become in making fakes, this forum has been advised to consult with before pulling the trigger specially when it comes to vintage pieces.
As i am located in the netherlands, i have selected these following 5:

Better to buy from the most reputable vintage dealer you can find. A newbie buying an expensive vintage watch can get taken advantage of. You will pay top price, but you will get a genuine piece.

Morty, if you plan to wear the watch daily for many years and then leave it behind for your son to wear for many years, perhaps vintage is not the best choice. Apart from the stratospheric price, wearing and servicing a high value vintage watch can be complicated, especially if you want to preserve its value.

Have you thought about the new red Seadweller 126600? It is a modern variation of the older red subs, but much more practical for daily use, with a saffire (=non-scratch) crystal and a ceramic (=non-scratch) bezel.

Good luck with the hunt.

Thank you for the tip. I just can’t wear new watches. Can’t connect with them. Too new and shiny for me. Rather a wrist with out a watch
Already wearing almost 40 years long just vintage watches and in specific Breitlings.
Now trying to hunt a decent Rolex and specifically the Red Sub is my all time favorite next to DRSD which is too far for me to fetch ;)
Will keep you up to date what in the end it will be.

Maybe a 16800 would be a good halfway house? Matte dial version would give a vintage feel and sapphire crystal and quick set make for easy everyday use. Also more likely to keep water resistant if you plan swimming with it

Nice one. Still on the hunt. Red sub is always been my favorite next to SD’s 1665
Though there are so many nice looking vintage 5513, 1016, 1675
I have to go one unfortunately

As it is becoming increasingly easy to purchase a counterfeit watch today, it is important to take the safest measures to ensure you do not get scammed. Especially if you are in the market for a vintage timepiece. If you are looking to purchase one, start by looking at professional watch dealers. These can be accessed both online and in stores. Look into what makes a watch vintage and its true market value before you purchase it. As well, if the watch has proper paper work and comes with the original box, you can be more confident in your search. Hope you find the right one!

Box and papers are easier to fake than the watch, so not the guarantee they may seem to be

Thank you everyone for advises. All taken

Already enjoying the thrill of the hunt is also a good vintage rolex class for me.
Breitlings i know more or less a lot. I like the new school ;) Very satisfying to learn so much.

What are your opinions on this one? Saw it on insta being offered by a german dealer (@millionwatches) looks fine to me (with my little knowledge) but the lugs are so sharp for a watch this old, right? And what about the hands? Do you experts see anything wrong and smelly here?
Thanks in advance

Case looks recut....hands might be newer but if they are the same as the markers under UV I would happy with them

Thank you. Is it a bad thing a recut case? Meaning it is totally a new case?

Case looks like it's been detailed to restore the chamfers. To me that's fine, but some people prefer a totally original case even if the chamfers have been polished away. Decide which you like better. It doesn't affect value massively.
