A quick question for my fellow TRF'ers...

A friend of mine has been bitten by watch fever after seeing and trying on my GMT-II and is looking at picking up a Breitling. He likes the larger case size, face color and recognizable Breitling dial. When he mentioned Breitling I immediately thought of one watch only, and that was the Navitimer, blue face. I then made a comment to him that the Navitimer was basically the "Submariner of Breitling" meaning that it was the one watch that in my opinion captured the spirit, history and essence of Breitling, the same way that I feel the Sub is the quintessencial Rolex.

What do you all think? Is that consistent with what you think or am I WAY off base? Whenever I think Breitling, Navitimer just pops into my head. I'm anxious to hear what you have to say.

That certainly is a great looking watch, but unless you are familiar with the usage of that very complicated dial, I'm pretty sure that 90% of those functions would be redundant to 90% of us watch lovers!!

Breitling has always been a pilots watch and what better pilot looking watch than the Navitimer

yeah i agree that the navitimer is the model that defines what breitling is about.....that rich blue dial looks best on a blue leather strap, at least for me....

I agree.
If you want a larger case take a look at the "Navitimer World", it's the largest Navitimer ever.
It's a beautiful watch but unfortunately only WR to 3 bars.

The Navitimer range are class watches Ruben.

The so called 'complicated' part of the watch isn't really. All it is is a mechanical chronograph with a circular slide rule for simple calculations.

Breitling have a great following including people in the aviation and motor vehicle industry.

The World Timer is one of my favorites as well.

the navi has a nice dial. but the band is thinner than sme of the other breits available. I really like bently lines nice size dials and bands

Exactely!! The World along with the Chronomat Evolotion define Breitlings to me, macho yet refined

Good choice. Breitlings tend to be a little too busy for me but for some reason I love the Navitimer which is probably the busiest of all. Go figure. I will be getting one at some point.

I have a nice little Breitling Navitimer LE with the Patrouille Suisse emblem on it. The Chrono faces are at 12 9 and 6 to make room for the emblem at 3.

It's a great looking watch and sits well, but the rotor is loud and I find the dial too busy to read. I hardly wear it and only strap it on now and then to make sure it's still working. Looks great in the collection though.

I love Breitling, and you hit the nail on the head as to what I invision when some mentions the name.

Breitling engineers took these two essential pieces of early flight tools and combined them in one neat package.

Unfortunately, everything is so small that it's more a novelty for me rather than a practical tool watch..Still, they are stunning:
