Dealer Bob Maron, please help

Good morning everyone,

I’m new to the vintage game and I am about to do my first deal with Bob Maron. Does anyone have any information about him. I’ve done some research and I find conflicting info. If you are uncomfortable making your post public, please feel free to DM me.

Thanks in advance

In general, I would only buy from someone I trusted 100% - “conflicting” info is a red flag. There are several trusted sellers mentioned on TRF- personally I limit my transactions to a handful of them.

I wouldn't know if this thread could be illuminating :

Never heard of him so I can’t comment about him.
However, “conflicting information” is all I need to know for any transaction. Hard to understand that there’s a question here.

Maron has been in the vintage game for many years but unless you know exactly what to look for then you may be taken for a ride. Bob has been known to enhance vintage pieces in order to increase their value. All I can say is do your homework and buyer be aware.

There is so much on the internet about this dealer, I don't know what can be added.

You’re a funny guy, Haywood! Not only illuminating, but required reading for vintage watch enthusiasts everywhere. (I got into an absolutely ridiculous spat with Rottman after he started throwing his, now classic, phrase “I get l**d more than you get paid” at various watch collectors)

You can read up on the lawsuit and the issues. With the value of vintage pieces, not surprising that some people try to cobble up pieces and try to make them look like something they were not. When Rolex says that bits are not legit, that’s a hard kick in the gut.

Wow its crazy that people are trashing Bob Maron over this law suit.

A quick google search shows the real truth.

"Two years of research restored John Mayer's belief that Bob Maron is an expert on Rolex watches, and confirmed that Bob Maron never sold him a counterfeit watch," they said in a joint statement"

Bob Maron was the first 'dealer' I sold a watch to, back in 1995. Great guy back then. Can't speak for him these days as it has been more than 15 years since my last deal with him. BTW the John Mayer law suit was dropped.

My favorite thread ever on TRF. We were all bombing his IG posts and posting the exchanges here. Guy was putting up service dial GMTs as all original and then arguing with people that they weren't service dials. Thread kept coming back for years as LR gave us more and more material. This was the greatness TRF used to bring before everyone started day trading Rolex.
