New Watch

I am currently looking for a new watch and the two front runners are the Panerai GMT Marina 44mm and the Ulysse Nardin GMT Big Date (both SS with a leather strap). I want to see if anyone has a take on these watches or could offer another option.

Panerai is easier to pronounce.
It is also more known thanks to the Transporter movies and Sly Stallone.

emtirely my own opinion is that you should buy whatever you like more but other factors to consider would be:

PAM is very in, which means more easy to sell.
UN, IMHO, is more of a horological company than PAM, being more of a stylish, toolish company (just what I feel...PAM wont compare to a centuries old watch maker for the horologist spot),
so if you are a classics guy, buy UN, if you are a stylish sporty guy, buy PAM

Both great companies and I agree with this assessment.

I would say that I'm mostly a classics guy, but I'm turning 25 and like to think that I'm stylish as well. Mostly, I'm looking for a watch that I will still love 20 years from now. UN has been a favorite of mine since I started reading about watches years ago (I blame the Robb Report), but Panerais just look so cool!

I completely agree with with BigHat & asadtiger. My suspicion is that you will eventually end up with both. And why not?

I'm sure you've considered this, but if not -- the ability to change straps on the Panny really adds lots of flexibility. You can dress it up, dress it down, go diving with it, all after about a minute swapping straps. Don't know, but that might help break a pure tie. Good luck. Really can't make a bad decision here.
