How does a timegrapher measure amplitude?
Well, the question is in the title. How can a timegrapher know how many degrees the balance turns just from the ticking sound?

Well, it really seems to measure the speed of the balance going through its "zero" position from acoustic signals only. Amazing.

Timing machines hear the five shocks that occur with each “Tick.” They use a inputted lift angle and the duration of the shocks to calculate amplitude.
